The Six Biggest Tarot Myths
Ever since I started practicing Tarot a few years ago, there have been a lot of myths that have crossed my path. I always thought Tarot was complicated or that you had to possess “special ability” in order to be a good reader. Plus, there was a lot of gatekeeping and mystery draped over the practice that made it feel difficult to be a part of . Thankfully, I was able to find several Tarot groups on Facebook that allowed me to explore and debunk a lot of these myths.

Home Is Where the Heart Is...
The last few years have been weird. I left the place I grew up and moved two states away. I started living with my fiancé (boyfriend at the time). Added to our fur family. It’s been a lot of growing up and a lot of reality checks. It’s been weird…but also eye opening and wonderful. Through all the stress of “adulting” and trying to steady ourselves in an ever changing world, we have managed to turn every living situation into our own space. No matter what the environment might have been, no matter what stressors were present, we somehow turned the spaces into a small sanctuary of sorts. A home. And all of this has me asking the question: What makes a home?

Miscarriage Story
It’s like when you first turn out the light for bed. You can’t see what’s in front of you. All you can do is stumble your way under the covers. And it can be unsettling, uncomfortable, or even a bit scary having your sense of sight gone just like that. This is where most people go to sleep. They close their eyes and drift away into the sand. Now imagine that grief is insomnia. It keeps you from drifting away. You stay, very awake, in the dark. Firmly tethered to reality. Some even go mad. They drive themselves crazy, or even turn the light back on, refusing to acknowledge the dark. But if you sit in the dark long enough you’re eyes adjust. There’s a faint blue hue that slips over your eyes and softens the atmosphere around you.

New Year! New Me?
It’s that time if year again where everyone vows to “do better” and “be better” for this next year. As soon as January 1st hits, gyms are packed, Walmart is out of water bottles, the organic shelves at the grocery stores are picked clean, and Staples is sold out of all their organizational planners. Now, in and of itself, I do not have an issue with New Years resolutions. However, I do have a *few* caveats when it comes to making them.

Miscarriage Story
I’ve started and stopped this story so many times. Not quite sure how I want to tell it…unsure of if I even wanted to tell it. But after many months of rough drafts, deleting, and secondary rough drafts, I think I’ve finally told it in a way that I like. I read somewhere that the story you are most afraid to tell is the story you NEED to tell. So here it is.

Censorship
TRIGGERED!!! Censorship and “trigger warnings” are hot topics right now. In this day and age, it feels like everyone is just WAITING to be offended. And don’t get me wrong, sometimes it’s justified. If what you’re experiencing is true harassment, you have every right to be upset and offended. But when I hear about some of the things that people are complaining about, I can’t help but think that those people are taking it too far.nLet me give you an example…if you’re at work and someone is making sexual comments towards you or another co-worker, that is harassment and should be stopped. On the other hand, if you are at a comedy show and the comedian makes a joke that you dislike or are offended by, that is something that should be left alone. It all comes down to free speech.

Making Myself My First Choice
When I was in middle school, I knew I wanted to go to college. Both my parents went to college, and my mom actually went to college twice, once for her Bachelor’s and once for her Masters. Now, at that age, the colleges I deemed my “first choice” were based on very little knowledge of what the schools actually taught, and more on the schools I heard my parents say good things about. But I knew that college would be in my future, and there was no way I was not going to go.

I Write Cuz I Want to Damnit
I have always wanted to start a blog. Always. Ever since I was a wee child, I imagined sitting down and putting my thoughts to paper (or in this case, computer) and sharing them with the world. I always had new ideas for a blog. A blog about animals. A blog about book reviews. Video blogging. Maybe a blog about health. My interests were ever changing, which made it difficult to narrow in on a single topic.

What Happens After Rape?
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. And while the #MeToo movement gets a bad reputation for being “too feminist” (“too feminist” is a load of bullshit, if you ask me), I think that this movement has made it easier for individuals to share their stories… myself included. I’ve *briefly* talked about my rape before in another Vocal post titled, “An Open Letter to My Rapist.” It was more of a poetic “fuck you” than anything else, but it was cathartic nonetheless. However, as I’ve pondered and thought and reread, I realized that there was a big part of the story that was missing. And when I look at other people’s stories, I noticed the same thing. We all talk about the rape or assault, but never what happens afterwards. So I wanted to write on this topic again and do it justice. Tell the full story. After-effects and all. No sugar coating… I’ll start at the beginning.

Why I Was MIA
It has been almost three months since I’ve published anything to my blog. And even longer than that since I have made any strides in my health coaching business. And you know what sucks? In those three months, I feel like I didn’t accomplish much. I wasn’t out experiencing the world and going on crazy backpacking trips. I wasn’t working on another project or doing charity work. I simply… got caught up with life. I began working full time at a medical office and then made a pretty big move (California to Colorado) so understandably I became “busy.” But regardless of what my schedule was like, I know that if I really wanted to, I could have fit time in to work on my blog. Needless to say, I got distracted. Any “free time” I had I spent at the gym, meal prepping, and just trying to relax for the work week that was going to hit me before I even realized it.
