Who I Really Am...

Believe in yourself.

Never forget this.

How do you know who are you are? I can tell you that I sure didn’t know until the beginning of this year. I am 22 years of age and I've always lived this life I was comfortable with. I did the same thing every weekend, with the same people, coming home at the same time and working the same job, which most women at my age did not do. I was comfortable. This wasn’t what I wanted my life to be. I always imagined traveling, taking risks, starting my own business, and meeting new people, but I only allowed myself to do what I was used to and didn’t know how to go about the things I wanted to do. In result of this, I was very stuck in my comfort zone and wasn’t able to bring myself to start what I really wanted.

Why did it take so long for me to realise? It took some hard work on myself and having time to think on my own for me to realise that no one is going to do the things I want to do for me. I have to change what I need to change in order for me to go in the direction I wanted to go in. I lost my closest friends, I lost family members, I lost the person I thought I was. This is when I realised that I am bigger and I am better. I can do what I want to do. No one is going to stop me, so losing the people I did was only a realisation that they weren’t good for the person I’ve wanted to be.

What I did to change? I’m positive. I no longer think that there is a limit to my life. I handed my notice in at work, which I worked for six years and was my only job, because I’m moving on to bigger and better. I am a volunteer at my local church, which brings me out of my comfort zone of only knowing certain people. My business is in the trial and error stage and is in working progress. I now believe that I can do this. I can change who I am. I can push myself. I’m going to get it.

What have I learned? Never settle for less than what you deserve. Never believe that you cannot do something. Never believe that you cannot reach better and do better. Never believe that the friends you have known for years are your only friends or even people that are good for you. Never believe that it’s just going to come to you. You have to do it to make things happen.

I’m in a better position now.

I know myself.

I know who I am.
