What is happiness?
A question answered over and over, generation after generation. The answer... whatever you make it.
Happiness is subjective. It always has been.
People find it in the smallest of places, in the most unlikely situations and when they least expect it.
I can quite firmly say that my happiness lies within a select few main categories, such as:
- My family
- My friends
- The love of my life
- Adventures, exploring and travelling
- Animals, big and small
- The Ocean
- A beautiful blue sky
- Music that perfectly explains your feelings
- A good nights sleep
- Cuddles
- Photographs
Some of these things bigger than others. Some free, others not. Some involve just myself and others involve select people.
Happiness for others they may find in money, success in their career, art, technology and a whole host of other things that this modern world has to offer.
What works for one almost definitely will not work for another.
I have never had a more content moment than when sat at the front of a speed boat sat in a wet-suit, watching the wake behind me and looking at the horizon that goes on forever, when you're moving too fast to think about anything other than what your eyes see in that moment.
I have also never had a more content moment than when i'm half asleep and I feel my boyfriend (attempt) to quietly and quickly get into bed, so I roll over to cuddle into his side, he opens his arms for me, pulls me in tight and kisses my forehead whilst he whispers that he loves me.
An amazing photograph that captures a moment perfectly. You either see the true love in someones face as they're looking at someone completely unaware; or the genuinely massive smile on a child's face that you couldn't make up if you tried; the look of concentration of people that are completely oblivious to your presence; the beauty in nature and the environment in an amazing landscape shot, or a breaching whale, jumping dolphins and attacking sharks.
Blasting that playlist that so many people have great memories connected to it, so you dance around carelessly almost like a child again until you're too tired so you just fall onto the sofa together laughing.
Family get together's where food is flowing, children are playing and running around and all the adults are having a good old gossip session over anything they can think of.
Fluffy things you call pets that love you more than anything with no hidden agendas, no requirements and always completely unconditionally.
A solid 12 hours of the deepest sleep, with a most perfect dream tucked away somewhere in the night, waking up in your own time with no alarm clock and the day to use how you so wish.
Travelling all around the world, visiting new places, eating new native cuisine, meeting locals and understanding their culture. Learning in its most pure and most exciting form.
The perfect day where the sky is completely blue, the sun is shining in all its glory, the wind is at maximum a slight breeze. Where a t-shirt is all that's needed. It's a day where it seems like all is possible, all is probable and today of all days, you're actually going to do what you couldn't find the courage to do before.
There is a million ways to be happy for every single person on earth. Figuring out your happy is the key to a content life.
Knowing that it comes in all shapes, sizes and costs is the answer to it all. What makes you happy is up to you, you've just got to keep an eye out for it.
