What I Obtained from Being a Part of a LinkedIn Movement

Life brings lessons from every corner.

I was born an individual mostly known as a misunderstood rarity the world spewed out—wise beyond my years and an oddball where my generation is concerned. Everyone yearns to be a success and leave a legacy though many have an interesting view of how they are obtaining it and their personal description of it. Mine stems from how I was raised—the child of an immigrant family; the hardworking and centered head on a youth’s body and the learned helplessness the education system provided. Caught in between this bittersweet spectrum was where a diamond was destined to meld into something greater; something that promotes independence and a doorway for others to step through. The path that added to the present growth is LinkedIn with all her children gifting and receiving knowledge and one way I put my growth to the test was through the "Random Act Movement.” These newfound relationships might’ve been started digitally but the experience was entirely human.

1. Experienced Unity!

This movement on Linkedin was composed of numerous teams and walks of life that saw individuals contributing to making the world a better place. Though the members of each group were of various cultures, religions, etc., the message was global and provided a common ground: positivity and teamwork make the dream work!

2. Leaving a Legacy Behind!

I've seen firsthand how kindness and the spreading of positive energy affect the world and her children, though the real influence was realized during a part of the "Random Act Movement." Society yearns to sever our likeness and bring out the darkness that lies within each of us and labels the outcome collateral damage when in reality, pessimism is a curable epidemic. The goal for the movement was to achieve at least 1,000 recorded acts of kindness by the end of 2018. The goal adhered to its purpose and ended with a striking 1,030 with other actions being anonymous. This was an excellent outcome for the few allotted months.

3. Receiving Negativity and Still Saying Yes!

I, being the youngest member carrying the torch of team #blueangels, let alone the movement in its entirety, have received a surplus of feedback and attention. Upon each contribution, my team members or fellow contributors part of the journey were gauging the health of the piece through the comments. I especially received a mixture of engagement, from powerful voices of encouragement to see things through as the future of tomorrow to ageist remarks claiming I’m way over my head.

4. Networking is always great!

The four months that the movement was active saw so much growth in terms of professional development, having been treated as an established individual in my craft; something that offers room for growth on either end of the spectrum and I was exposed to folk receiving feedback and genuinely reciprocating in turn. LinkedIn is a platform like no other and has indeed changed my life!

5. Our actions leave footprints, too?

Throughout the remainder of 2018, the movement had us flowing through our impending deadline with a certain pep in our step. Each submission added a layer that shed light into the souls that were influenced by the volunteerism and those lives that opened up, sharing personal and significant accounts. The greatest gift any of us could have asked for last Christmas was reaching our goal and breathing the legacy we’d started.

6. An Intergenerational Journey

For starters, carrying the label of “youth” upon your head like a flashing light can be a beautiful burden indeed. Within a platform where positivity and growth are ever-present, it acts as a beacon of invigorating energy for creativity and business ideas. It’s refreshing to know that I’ve found phenomenal tribe members with an open-minded vision that promotes integration no matter where you are on your journey, what you are, or the years of wisdom on your resume. I've been fortunate enough to collaborate with and see deeper inside these brilliant minds where I've learned that the older provides an organized mind and the younger, a vivid view.

7. Sending Love and Growth for Free

Never have I experienced another sending forth positivity and growth endearing feed from individuals I hardly knew. A short while before onboarding with the brilliant people of the Random Act Movement, I started to taste the inspiration this platform was brimming with; particular individuals gifted their time and genuinely wanted to help me grow into the most potent version possible. Most of the professionals I have had the pleasure of familiarizing myself with on numerous levels have written books or own businesses and considered me an expert writer, influencer, and an overall refreshing individual. The generational gap was never an enigma to be placed in a box; I’ve made sure to bring the millennial mind and help make the world a better place with these folk that took me under their wing.

8. Virtual Journaling for the Soul

The daily interaction was like writing down our thoughts of the day and squeezing every ounce of passion into those words for only our eyes to read. The only difference was the presentation of said thoughts into a verbal account—a human interaction in a highly digital era. The approach carried its weight and proved its worth over a simple post of tags and words that describe them.
