True Beauty

Petty Pride

This quote is from the Mexican Magazine, "Caras". It translates to: Perhaps pride will make you feel strong, but not happy."

This quote makes me think of Tiffani Thiessen. If you remember the show, “Saved By The Bell,”, then you remember her. She played Kelly Kapowky, alongside Mark Paul Gosselaar, who played Zack Morris. This was my favorite TV show growing up. I watched it every Saturday morning. It was the only show for kids in the ‘90’s. I didn’t know what Thiessen was up to lately, until I saw her on an episode of the Rachel Ray Show. She was talking about her cook book. I love her energy. Her husband is from Texas, and she shared with Rachel her husbands’ favorite recipe: Short-rib enchiladas. I like my enchiladas with a lot of sauce. My favorite is red, but a tomatillo sauce is hard to resist. Her recipe called for frying the tortillas in oil, and covering the top with cheese, before finally baking them in the oven. I don’t like anything on the dry side, but those enchiladas really looked like a Mexican lasagna. What’s better than that?

Thiessen reminds me of a classmate I had in massage school. I finished the HHP Program about 11 years ago. (I am also a Reiki Practitioner.)

I think her name was Rebecca. She was spunky, vivacious, loud, and quite fit. She had big, curly, brown hair, and she was always quite energetic. She looks just like Tiffani, but the similarities didn't end there. She was in my holistic nutrition class. Rebecca brought in her own recipes for healthy eating. She shared her recipes with the whole class. I think her booklet was 10 pages long.

She wanted to help inspire people to eat more healthy food, and adopt an overall healthy lifestyle. I knew she meant those recipes to be for me. I knew that unfortunately, my classmates were gossiping about me in all of my classes. Teachers would even make comments to me in front of my classmates. They would reveal personal information to others when they insulted me. They insulted my intelligence, to top it all off. Did they actually think their cruelty would go undetected? No one was positive. No one was actually helpful. Rebecca, was the only one.

Rebecca wanted to be a positive example throughout the whole ordeal. She didn't want to join in on all the gossip, and smack talking taking place behind my back.

Instead of judging me, or criticizing my weight, or appearance, she decided she would focus on being positive, and healthy instead. I appreciated all of her creativity and thoughtfulness. She was truly beautiful on the inside and outside. It is rare to find positive people who don't participate in pettiness, or being so proud in their appearance, that they would rather insult others, just to make themselves feel entitled or justified in their self-pride. Being an adult after all, means more than having a job, and paying the bills until you die. Being an adult means, you know how to treat people the right way; with kindness and helpfulness.

Everyone has a right to happiness, just like Rick Astley sings, and so do I. People always seem to think that it is still OK to make fun of fat people. Fat people always get discriminated against, and that is not OK. It is wrong, petty, immature, and really shows people's true colors.
