Treading Water

How much longer?

I always find it distressing when I get "stuck" in life. For three months now, I have been treading water in my life, filling my own head with a million ideas, but finding it so difficult to get up out of bed in the mornings. However, if I stop and think for a second outside of my panic-stricken self, this time in my life has given me the greatest gift that we as human beings could ask for... time.

I realised that moments like this were placed purposefully and strategically in my path to make sure I stop to revaluate my goals, my approach, and my wellbeing. I've realised a few aspects of my thought process in this time that I feel need to be addressed:

1. Old Patterns

It is important to acknowledge and pay attention to your patterns. The ways and means that you have learnt to survive in your life may not be the ways in which you want to continue to live. In the moment, and in your situation, they were necessary and ensured your survival, however, it is imperative that you heal and shift.

2. Control

Most "A type" personalities—myself included—crave control in all areas of life. What is important is to learn that loss of control is inevitable. It is impossible to retain control of all aspects of our life. The more risk we take, the more control we agree to let go of in order for greatness to be the outcome. Your goal here should be the challenge to control the way you respond to what is happening around you; this is imperative in order to stay in power.

3. Don't rush.

In today's internet-driven world, don't allow yourself to be "rushed." Social Media today has this overwhelming power to make one feel inadequate, undervalued and often times like a complete and utter failure in life. Take some time out of watching other people's "lives." I say that lightly, as a lot of what is posted and shared is so far from reality in any case. However, something to remember is that people don't post their failures, don't let the internet rush you and don't compare your chapter one to someone else's chapter 20.

4. Discipline

During my "treading" time, I read a quote that completely resonated with me: "Perhaps the world isn't giving you what you want because, based on all of your distractions and lack of discipline, it is simply unclear what it is that you are asking for." Now for me, this is exactly the issue. Without decided discipline and focus the universe is unclear on what it is I actually want to happen. Take a moment, regroup, refocus, and recalibrate on what it is you want for your life; this will assist you in attracting what is necessary for your success.

5. Yesterday

Stop dwelling. Remember that what was good will remain good, and what was not good is done. If you remain stuck in the pain of the past and do not actively sort through it, you will find time passing you by with little to no growth in your life, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. Yesterday is a very heavy put down.

6. Don't argue.

We have to get to a point in our lives where arguing is no longer an option. We no longer accept the invitation for people to create anxiety and unrest in our lives. We have to be comfortable enough in ourselves that it is no longer a need to let people know that we are correct, that it is not our fault, that we have the answers, and that we are intelligent. Get to a point of inner peace where if someone tells you that 1+1=5, you are correct. Absolutely. Enjoy.

Although it's never easy to be stuck, there is a lesson and there is a growth opportunity in every situation of our lives. Remember that athletes often put themselves in the same situation of treading water to build up stamina, who's to say that this part of your life isn't building your stamina for your next big success? Tread on, darlings.
