YouTube community, remember this?

I made this/wrote this in October of 2010. Does anyone remember the early Youtube equestrian community?

10.10.10

Right now, you probably have something on your mind. A breakup? A friend that hasn't texted you back? Where you're going to buy that dress for homecoming? That contest you were supposed to enter?

Now, picture the globe. Zoom out from where you are on this map so the whole world is now in perspective. See how tiny you are in comparison to the globe?

Scan over the seven continents, and then back to yours. Do you see how miniscule you are compared to the rest of the planet? How insignificant what you were just thinking of actually was? Think of all the billions of other people out there. There are many who are probably thinking of something insignificant as you are, but there are those handful that have the entire planet in mind.

This is exactly what frustrates me about society. What are we doing sitting here in our chairs doing NOTHING? Why are we here on Earth if life's only path was to go to school, make money, and then retire? Isn't there more to it than that? I know there is to me. There's got to be and I believe it with all of my heart.

I, of course, am guilty to some extent of being a hypocrite, but I am taking it upon myself to help broaden this small perspective that most of the population has.

Never take for-granted the small things, but don't dwell on them either.

There's so much more to life and the world than that one yet-to-be-received text.

This video represents my life. This is me, in my own little world. As I am searching for freedom and worth, I am also broadening my perspective on the world.

My eyes have finally been opened.

--------------------

I've changed in the last year. Maybe I'm just another teenage soul, but I feel so much more aware. I feel so much the need to see the world, to travel, to experience, to LIVE.

If you ever get the chance, travel. The world is like a book. If you don't travel... you've only read the first page. I wish I could see more of it, as I've only read the first few pages, but I'll just have to wait.

I think what has moved me the most is the conflict in Africa. Seeing Blood Diamond has inspired me beyond the point of return. It really hit me hard, like this semester in school I've been studying Apartheid in South Africa.

I've been dying to edit lately, but it's all about finding that song. This one really laid out a spreadsheet for me. I've never been a fan of African music... until now. Africa is one of the continents that still has some culture left. Took me a good hour to remix this one... I used FOUR songs, haha oh boy...

I'm determined to make a change, to take a chance. I don't care about the people who will try to hold me back, because I've got this thing called passion and self-belief.

Nothing is impossible.

You know, people are always saying, "Don't take life so seriously," but you know what? You've only got one of them. I'll damn well take it seriously thank you very much. Of course, have fun and don't be afraid to live or love... but don't throw it away, don't waste time. DO something, that's why we're here on Earth.

-------------------

I hereby challenge myself to being an interesting person. To broadening the thinking of the world as well as myself. To following my dreams that may or may not be too large to reach, but they'll be one hell of a journey at that. To finding the motivation within myself that I know is there to carry out my beliefs. To not be scared or afraid to break out of this sheltered society, but to say what I need to say and express my opinions as a free person. To dare to change this small perspective of the world.

That is the challenge I have put upon my person, that I feel is my own personal mission.

I owe it to the world, as being a part of humanity, to do some good. No matter how small or insignificant it may seem... I will do my part. I'm hoping to take on a big part, but we'll have to see where fate takes me. Of course, I'm still young. Too young to be totally independent and set off to complete my mission. But these years, these are the "foundation years." These are the years we set ourselves up to be great. We find ourselves, believe in ourselves, and by the time we are adults we can truly BE. We can change.

We're the next generation. Let's be the generation that takes a stand, that makes something HAPPEN. The world's messed up as it is. Let's be the generation that is NOT forgotten.

There's always a danger of dreaming too big, but dreaming too far is never possible.

"Some live more in 20 years than others do in 80. It's not the time that matters, it's the person."

I will. I will live... not as much for myself, but more so with an altruistic perspective. And there's no stopping me.
