How to Be Productive Without Leaving the Bed

Let’s face it, we all have those days when we just don’t feel like doing anything. I know I’ve had my share. When you’ve had a really long day, or you’re just too stressed to function, lying in bed for hours on end usually seems like the best option. But is it really?

If you’re anything like me, doing absolutely nothing all day even if you’re tired just makes you feel… guilty. Like, I could be doing something, couldn’t I? Well, luckily for us, it is entirely possible to have it both ways at once. There are plenty of ways to be productive while you’re being lazy! You get to accomplish stuff while not really doing much of anything at all! It’s a win-win.

Here’s a list of guilt-free things you can do without even leaving the bed!

1) Pinterest

Pinterest has always been one of my favorite social media platforms. It’s all the fun without any of the drama. And better yet, it’s useful! You can pin tons of helpful articles and images to different boards you create. You can have a board for basically anything, too. Whether it’s health and fitness, recipes, hair and makeup tips, or art inspo, you can use Pinterest boards to organize your thoughts, plan out your future, and get inspired!

2) Write

Writing has a huge amount of benefits. Not only is it a great way to relieve the stress of our everyday lives, but it enhances memory retention, improves physical, psychological, and mental health, eases anxiety and depression, and even speeds up the process of healing, emotionally and physically. You can write a journal, short story, fan-fiction, poetry, the options are literally endless. There’s even a number of places that will pay you for your writing.

3) Draw

Aside from being a fun, relaxing activity, drawing has its health-related advantages as well. Drawing is known to enhance our memory, improve communication, problem solving, and critical thinking skills, and boost the immune system. And if your doodles turn out better than expected, you can use them as decoration, give them as a gift, or even sell them somewhere like Etsy.

4) Make some music.

I’m sure we can all agree how wonderful music is. But even more wonderful is making it yourself. The creation of music is said to make our brains function more effectively, improve our motor skills, slow down the aging of our brains, boost our confidence, and make us more empathetic towards others. It also allows us to heal ourselves and others who hear it. But, one of the most exciting things about it all is that there’s a lot of instruments that are just the right size to bring into the bed with you. How convenient.

5) Do a survey.

There are tons of online survey sites that pay users for sharing their opinions. I used to make about $25 a week simply by doing surveys while playing the Sims. It’s an incredibly easy way to make a little extra cash lying in bed. If you’re going to lay there all day, you might as well make some money while you’re at it, right?

6) App Testing

Just like surveys, testing apps and websites is a great way to make money on the side. One such website, UserTesting, if you’re accepted, pays at least $10 per completed web or app test. Payments are made every week through Paypal.

7) Read a book.

I’m sure nobody needs me to tell them just how beneficial reading is for the mind. Books contain all kinds of valuable information that can expand the way we think or look at the world around us, and there really is a book for everyone. It doesn’t even necessarily have to be an educational or self-help type book to get our brains going. Even a good fictional piece can teach us very valuable life lessons.

8) Train your brain.

For those of us who love to spend a lazy day playing video games, there is a more productive solution. Brain training apps and websites like Lumosity offer a wide selection of fun and addicting games created to boost our mental capabilities. The five main areas it works to improve are memory, speed, attention, flexibility, and problem solving, bringing guilt-free gaming to a whole new level.

9) Take a personality test.

Another really cool option, one of my all time favorite pastimes, is taking personality tests. They not only help us learn a lot about ourselves, but they help us to understand others better as well as we explore types different than our own. Not only that, but many personality typing systems offer information and advice regarding our relationships, strengths and weaknesses, and our work lives. And they're really fun, too! The ones I like the most are the 16 Personalities test based on the Myers-Briggs typing system and the Enneagramtest.

10) Take a nap!

If you don’t like any of the ideas above, or you’re just too tired to bother, then this last activity is for you! Even though it might seem like a pretty lazy thing to do, napping is just as beneficial for the mind and body as the rest of the list. It’s a stress reliever, a mood enhancer, and it can improve your overall work performance by making you less forgetful, more alert, and more creative!

Well, hopefully you enjoyed this list of suggestions, and no matter what you choose to do, I hope you have a wonderfully lazy, productive day!
