The Size of a Mustard Seed

Oh the Things You Can Do With a Mustard Seed… Seriously

“You can move mountains and grow hair with just a Mustard Seed?” Absolutely.

A mustard seed has many benefits to our every day lives. I know I know, you’re thinking, really lady? A mustard seed? It’s so tiny!

Really. A mustard seed. You’re right it is tiny, but it is ever so powerful. That tiny seed holds more good in its small frame than a Reese Cup (and that’s saying a lot from me).

Let me shine a little knowledge I have about the infamous seed.

Here’s a few things that the Mustard Seed can do:

  • Treats a fever
  • Relieves muscle pains and aches
  • Strengthens hair also, a great resource for hair growth
  • Helps with asthma
  • Cancer treatment (the presence of compounds like glucosinolates and mirosinase in mustard seeds are known to use phytochemicals to inhibit the growth of cancer cells.)

As I was researching about mustard seeds and all the benefits that they can have, I started to become overwhelmed. I say overwhelmed because I thought to myself “My God this tiny seed is incredible!” Which led me to my revelation about mustard seed faith.

I’ve always loved Jesus. Him and I go way way back, I mean I’ve known that guy forever! Yet, I’ve never took a look into what he was actually saying when he said “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.” Jesus goes on to mention the mustard seed five more times in the Bible.

For such a small seed, God sure did care a whole lot about it’s meaning, and I think we all should.

I got to thinking some more about this. Every day we should strive to plant a mustard seed in our lives somewhere. Of course, I’m not talking about real mustard seeds. I’m simply talking about doing things today that will see a possible payoff down the road. If you fill your life with doing these kinds of things, then your life will pay off again and again in more ways than you ever thought possible.

Whether it be, moving 10 dollars from your checking to savings once a week, buying that minivan's coffee order that’s behind you at Starbucks in the drive thru, or simply maintaining your things, performing the “mustard seed” of maintenance now means that you don’t have to pay for or deal with expensive repairs later and you can wait longer to replace the item.

The beauty of this is that many of the mustard seeds that you plant are like the seed itself, tiny... but the interesting part is that these mustard seeds you placed in your life, don’t grow immediately.

It might turn into nothing at all. It might turn into something good that you don't ever see. Absolutely, you’re going to have a lot of “nothing at all” results, but you’re also going to have a lot of “my cup runneth over” results. Your faith to some other people will be over looked and undermined, and that’s okay, Jesus never promised that having faith would be easy, he promised to be there to walk you through it when it’s not easy.

But it all boils down to how little of yourself it actually takes to create these successes.

Now imagine....all the the incredible things YOU can do with not one tiny Seed but better yet, a handful of mustard seeds.

It all took faith, the size of a mustard seed.
