The Only Thing Standing in Your Way is YOU

Excuses can't help you.

I know what you're thinking, "It's not my fault," "I was too busy," "I can't afford to go to the gym," etc. etc. These are all things you tell yourself (and others) to try and escape the fact that the reason your health is the way it is, is YOUR fault. YOU chose to eat that tub of ice cream. YOU chose to lay in bed all day watching television.

I'm here to tell you that you can also choose to change the way you think. You HAVE to change the way you think to be a healthier you. Unless you put everything you have into changing your thought processes, to relearn new behaviors, then eating healthy and exercising aren't going to help. You will get into shape and then fall back into the same unhealthy routine that you were in before. Back to gaining weight, and having no energy. Back to being upset and depressed in the life you chose. You have to choose. You can choose to pick a salad with dinner instead of potatoes. You can choose to go for a walk instead of lay in bed. Yes, you will have to consciously make these decisions on a daily basis to see change. However, in the long run you will feel better, have more energy, and eventually all of the good decisions will become second nature to you.

If you are worried about being able to afford the healthy food, throw that excuse out the window. There are many options on a budget (believe me, I know first hand). Skip the salad mixes that cost $5-6 a box and buy each ingredient on it's own for the same price, but lasts twice as long. Buy in bulk if you can for green canned veggies if you can't afford fresh. Even frozen veggies are cheap and better than grabbing a bag of junk food (which quite frankly costs more anyways). And chicken is much cheaper than hamburger (which isn't all that healthy for you anyways). It's not that you can't afford to eat healthy, it's that you would rather be able to afford to eat unhealthy. I get it, it's convenient, its quick, it doesn't dirty as much dishes. But you are just setting yourself up for failure with that way of thinking.

If your excuse is that you can't afford a gym membership, or you don't have a sitter for the kids, just shove that excuse down the garbage disposal with the rest of the trash. You can workout in your living room with no workout equipment what-so-ever. Do squats, lunges, jumping jacks. You can do push ups, and crunches. Use a bag of flour, a container of cooking oil, books, anything you could think of practically. Have kids? Depending on their ages they love to play along. If you have a baby or a toddler, play while you workout. There are lots of resources online to give you some ideas on how to incorporate baby into your workout routine. If they are older children, teach them to be fit and active, not lazy and fat. Teaching them now will give them the tools they need to not make excuses for themselves in the future. If they see you living a happy healthy lifestyle as they grow up odds are they will follow your lead into adulthood.

I used to be you, making excuses and procrastinating. I had to change the way I thought and viewed it all. Now I'm here to help you. The only thing standing in your way is YOU. Push yourself to do what you know needs to be done. Don't settle for a life you don't enjoy.
