Simple Ways to Build Confidence

Three Simple, yet Effective, Ways to Put Fears Aside

Don't underestimate the power of putting these three things into practice today. You have control over what you allow into your life.

Disrupt negative thoughts.

Have you ever noticed that some negative thoughts don't just build up gradually? They usually are disruptive and random; they pop up when you are on a positive path, forcing you to think of the worst, even though things are going well. Other negative thoughts are results of internal long term negative thought processes. Despite where they come from, you are able to disrupt negative thoughts just as they disrupt you. For example, when you catch yourself being negative about something try telling yourself this instead:

  • What if things do work out for me?
  • I deserve happiness and peace.
  • What if I am worthy of (fill in the blank)?

Be yourself at all costs.

Some people may think that following a fad, or drastically changing their look will boost their confidence. However, if something is not of your personality, and does not resonate with you, DON'T DO IT. You will only drive your self-esteem farther down a rabbit hole. There will be an illusion that your confidence is boosted, but in reality it isn't. Don't let your mind fool you. Be fearlessly yourself in front of everyone you meet. Don't allow judgements to seep through your confidence. Trust that this will help you feel comfortable in any setting. If you would like to change something about yourself, because you believe it will boost your confidence, then by all means, do it. The point here is, it is not necessary especially if you feel pressured to do it.

Surround yourself with positivity.

The more you have around you to remind you to be positive the, more your life will change. It could be something very small, such as unfollowing a page that reminds you of a bad memory, or changing your iPhone background picture to something bright and cheery. Think about the things that you see everyday that may be effecting your mood without your noticing. You especially want to surround yourself with positive, supportive people. People can effect you in ways unimaginable, you never truly know the power of someone in your life, until they are gone. This is true with negative people, as well. No one has the right to hold you down, from reaching higher places.

Find a creative outlet.

You may consider yourself an artist. However, we are all artists in disguise. Your decisions are a form of art, such as what outfit to wear, what jewelry to put on, or what to make for dinner. Try expressing yourself in a way you've never tried. Write whatever comes to mind in a journal. Poetry doesn't have to rhyme. Be unconventional. Decorate your room, and aim for it to be Pinterest worthy. Any creative outlet can help you feel more confident, because you are flushing out feelings. If you'd like, post them to social media for opinions. Everyone loves to see what a beautiful mind can come up with. Imagination is what makes the world go round.

Realize that only you can make yourself feel more confident.

All of the work needed to feel truly confident must come from you. You are the only person that can make yourself feel confident, accomplished, and successful. You may think that compliments alone will work, but most often it doesn't. They are small stepping stones towards confidence. Nothing can compare to the transformation that happens from your own reflections. Meditate for at least 15 minutes a day to have the strength, motivation, and focus to carry on the day. Sometimes you can be too tired and overwhelmed to do any of the things suggested in this article. Art does not flow easily from our brains while being stressed. So, the first measure would be to find some peace. However, for some, being frustrated produces a whole lot of compelling artwork. It all depends on you.
