I’ve talked about self-love a lot over my recent posts on my blog and the power it holds, when you can be one with it. So it’s seems only right that I should publish a few posts on this and show you how you can get your damn power back!
You’ve probably heard in the past that “you have to love yourself first, before you can love anything else” which is simply not true! I loved many people at a time in my life when the thing I fucking loathed the most was in fact, myself; so yes, it is very possible to love others before yourself, but there are consequences: everything around you, your emotions, your feelings, your soul, all feel dumb and cold; they all taste like ash and soot, they have no real meaning, and you cannot connect it to yourself in any way. Love is not on a scale that can only go up or down, if you choose to, your whole life can be filled with the utmost happiness! Glowing like a little glow worm!
Imagine, a relationship between two people who have unconditional love for each other, amazing right? Now, imagine a relationship between two people who have unconditional love for themselves and each other! Imagine walking into a room with those people—you would feel that wonderful, glowing energy beaming from their souls and touching everyone in the room (sounds crazy, but honestly, this is how energy works; this is why negativity and positivity are so powerful, and you must be careful which one you decide to nurture. It will spread, to the room, close friends, family, and your entire world).
I’ll say it again, yes, you can love others without loving yourself, but, loving yourself definitely acts as a sort of foundation for every other emotion, feeling and act your soul goes through, and without a solid foundation for anything, it is weaker, and more likely to crash down at the tiniest blow! For instance, someone with a solid foundation of self-worth and love will be able to pull down on those powerful roots and flick off any negative energy used against them. Take me, for example. It has taken me years, and I mean years, to understand what self-love is and to embrace it fully: I can honestly say that I unconditionally love me (not just because I’m a UK size 10/12, young blonde haired white woman) and that strong foundation under me (otherwise known as my thunder thighs) can really push down on the ground beneath me and actually lift me up higher when negativity comes my way.
Remember, confidence is not cockiness! You can be the epitome of self-love, without making others feel intimidated. That is not what self-worth is about, and the more people you can embrace with love, the happier everyone (including you) will be. Whatever you put out into the world will find its merry way of getting back to you (times three!). This is due to the law of three fold, which is part of the Wiccan Rede, a prayer that most witches adhere to. Here is a snippet:
“Bide the Witches' Rede ye must, in perfect love and perfect trust. Eight words the Rede thou must fulfill: An' it harm none, do as ye will.
What ye send forth returns to thee, so ever mind the rule of three. Follow this with mind and heart, and merry ye meet and merry ye part.”
This is just a short version. There is a frightfully long version, but most of us just memorise this one, “an’ it harm none, do as ye will.” This ultimately means whatever you are putting out into the world—whether that be, a spell, a ritual, or simply a conversation with another—harm none in the process!
