Say Thank You

The Power of Gratitude

A little while ago, I realized how much I appreciated a friend, and thought they could use a little affirmation of how great they are. So I sent them a text with two simple words: thank you. Of course, with it being out of the blue, the response was "for what?" I simply said it was for being them. As I hoped, they were very appreciative of my gesture.

Then it took off from there. I grew more and more aware of how grateful I was for a great deal of people in my life. I just started saying thank you every so often out of the blue when I was thinking of someone, and when the inevitable "what for?" came I either said "for being you" or gave a little explanation of something they did either for me or something perhaps they didn't know they were doing, like influencing my life for the better.

What I've found is that the people I thank are not only cheered up a bit, but they are also more aware of how great they are. When I express my gratitude to someone, they are likely to share theirs as well, to me or someone else. It is really fulfilling to see someone be brightened and sharing positive vibes as a result of a small thing I did.

Just say it. Saying thank you is very underappreciated much like the people it deserves to be said to. There are so many amazing people out there. So many people that don't get to hear those two words enough. I bet if you put some thought into it, you could find at least three good reasons to thank someone right now.

Thank your teacher for putting effort into your future. Thank your mentor for taking their time to teach you how to succeed. Say thanks to that secretary who's always there to answer your questions or direct you to the proper person. Thank yourself for getting out of bed and giving today a shot. The list is endless of people to thank and things to thank them for.

It doesn't have to be with a physical gift either. No money is required to express your gratitude towards someone. Thank them with a smile, a hug, a high five, or a good ol' verbal "thank you."

If you want to be a little more creative than just "thank you," I can offer a few phrases to try.

"Thank you for __ ; You are so dear to me; I value the things you do; I am so grateful for your existence; Know that you are appreciated; You matter to me; I love you."

Yes, share the love! There is no reason why you can't say you love a person that you're close to. The world needs more love, and not fear. Embrace the fact that you care so much about someone. If you never show a person that you care they may never know that you do. It is crucial to communicate feelings of gratitude and love.

If we all step outside of our comfort zones even a bit, and step up to thank someone who deserves it, our world can be a much happier and supportive place for everyone. All it takes is a small gesture of thanks. It doesn't matter how big or small. Just saying "thank you" is enough.

So thank you. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read what I have to say. I really appreciate it! I hope every person gets something back from reading these entries. The reason why I write is to help people lead more positive lives.
