Pursuit of happiness

What does happiness mean to you? I think that is the question people are always trying to answer. Happiness to you could mean something different to someone else. People go their whole lives searching for what truly makes them happy. People are always chasing happiness and the gold at the end of the rainbow. Life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, but what if it was? Happiness is the state of being happy. Happiness is a sense of well-being, joy, or contentment. When people are successful, or safe, or in love, they feel happiness. The “pursuit of happiness” is something this country is based on, and people tend to feel happiness in different ways and for different reasons. Happiness, true happiness, is an inner quality. It is a state of mind. If your mind is at peace, you are happy. Then you need to figure out what brings your mind peace to achieve happiness. Doing what you love or enjoy, traveling places you have always wanted to go, or being around people that make you happy all contribute to your happiness.

“If you have everything the world can give—pleasure, possessions, power- but lack peace of mind, you can never be happy.” People think material things can bring them happiness, but the thing is, you can have everything you have ever wanted and still not be happy. I believe happiness comes from within and you decide if you want to be happy or not. How do you find true happiness in life? Define it, accept it, and listen to it. Create your own happiness and accept it, express gratitude. Stop identifying with sickness or suffering as defining who you are. You are not your past or the things that happen to you. All of the things that go wrong in your life are not who you are as a person. Once you overcome this obstacle of self-doubt, you start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Get to know who you really are. Be true to yourself. Be patient with yourself. Learn to breathe. Listen to your inner child, that child never goes away. Accept the good with the bad. Surround yourself with people who are good for your soul. Hold onto your values and always live in the now. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Find the balance that allows you to be who you truly are. Take care of your temple. Nurture and love it. Focus on things that truly matter. If it won’t matter in five years, don’t spend more than five minutes worrying about it. Embrace life challenges. Everything happens for a reason. Do not dwell on things that are out of your control. Don’t fear failure, it helps you grow as a person. Once you overcome and accept all of these things, you have figured out the secret to happiness. Happiness is whatever you make it. Happiness is already within you, you just have to water it and let it grow. Sometimes we bury happiness with fear and all of life’s obstacles, and forget we are in control of our own happiness. What does the pursuit of happiness mean to you? Does it mean love to you? Does it mean acceptance? Does it mean financial stability? Do you even know where your own happiness stems from? A lot of people are still searching for happiness. People get confused and think they need to find their happiness in a place or within another being. Happiness is found within yourself, and if you can’t love and accept yourself, will you ever truly be happy?
