Moving...

Just do it.

The beauty of California makes life much easier.

It’s that time again. The sight of brown, the feel of stickiness, the ragging chaos of personal belongings being packed away. Total emptiness suffocating me. This is what moving feels like. I’ve moved around many times. It was nothing new to me. The only difference was that I would be moving across the country; leaving family, friends, and a life I’ve grown to love. This would be a new experience. “You get to start over,” I was told by my loved ones. With only the best interest in mind, I agreed to leave my hard work behind to start fresh. With an open mind, my family and I packed up, venturing off to California for a new start.

Once in California, an uneasy feeling began to settle in the pit of my stomach. I was nervous to finish my junior year in a new school, with new people, and a different curriculum. I was ahead in most of my classes. I even had more credits than most of the junior class. This excited me and I finished junior year with a pleasant breeze. I realized school in California wasn’t so bad. However, there was a piece missing from me. A piece of me that grew in eighth grade. One word: Track! Moving to California put stress on me that caused me to take the season off of my running career.

Running is a passion of mine. When I was in eighth grade, I was referred by my PE coach to run track. Ever since then, I have been running. In my freshman year of high school I took my four by eight team to state and placed tenth. The following year I took them to regionals, where I got a personal record of two minutes and twenty seven seconds in the half mile.

Moving around many times has opened my eyes. I see that there is a bigger picture. I am willing to try new things and meet new people without regret. One important move to me was when I moved to Greensboro, NC where I knew absolutely no one. I was only in seventh grade at the time and this is where I discovered the bigger picture I was always told about. I had to make new friends and be independent. I gained qualities that wouldn’t have been as easily recognizable if gained elsewhere. My personality grew up there. I grew up there. When in high school I learned how to shine and be friendly, I ventured to volunteer and try to pursue goals that could determine my future. I helped take care of my aunt’s special needs kids, I became a counselor for girl's camp my church put on. I knew exactly what I wanted to become. I wanted to be a Health Care Administrator. Being in Greensboro humbled the child that I was and young adult that I was to become.

Even though I have moved across the country, I have been amazed at the accomplishments I have made thus far. Moving to California has broadened my choice of colleges that will help me to pursue a life in becoming a Health Care Administrator. I have been dreaming of an opportunity to attend a great medical college and moving to California has accomplished this dream, by giving me a variety to choose from. Moving is not as bad as it always seems; most often, moving around helps build character and personal experience.
