Do the things. Be the great.

Motivate yourself.

We all get lazy sometimes, we all procrastinate, we all think that someone else has the right to be more successful. Here is some motivation for you. Oprah once told a group of students that there are three things which are important in life.

Those three things are:

Know who you are. She wrote an example saying that she is not only an entrepreneur, not only a business woman, not only a talk show host, she is all of those things and when someone asks her what she does, she needs to stop and think because all of the above are what makes her Oprah.

The second thing is what do you want? We all need to figure this out in some point of our lives. What is it really that we want out of life? And how are we going to achieve that dream?

The third thing is we need to serve. We need to provide service and eventually great things will happen to you. You remember the kind server that gave you extra sauce when you did not ask for it? That is the person you remember, be that person. People do not become great by just giving up. The days where you want to give up are the days where we need to push ourselves even more.

Today, I did not want to get up and go to work. I did not want to get out of bed, but I pushed myself to do that. I did that because I know nothing will come from doing nothing.

Our society today has grown so soft, we don't like something we quit, that's not what we need to do. We need to ask ourselves why don't I like doing this? Is it because I am not doing this for me? If the answer is yes to that, then do quit. Quit because you need to do things for yourself, otherwise it is life that is driving you and not you driving life. Quit if you are doing it for your parents, for your friends just quit and think about what is it that will make you happy.

Denzel Washington once said, "Don't confuse movement with progress." Helping others is where success stems from, it is not about how big the house, how expensive the car, it is how you are helping people, there is something gratifying about helping some one else. The need to do that is part of the drive that gets us out of bed everyday. You want to be a teacher? Why? Why? Because you can make a difference in a child's life. You can change the way a child thinks and you never know if you are raising the next Bill Gates or the next president or minister, you as a teacher have no way of doing that, but you can change a child's life.

Greatness does not happen over night, we have to work at it otherwise everyone would be great and we would have no one to look up to, we would not have leaders or great thinkers. Greatness comes from working even when you do not want to. I want to be an author, that is not going to happen if I write a book in a night. No, this is going to be hard work, I need to write everyday even when I am tired, I need to edit everyday to improve myself as a writer. I need to say I am going to write 20 pages today and I should not stop until that is done. Stephen King is one of the greatest writers of all time, he does not know the word "stop." He wrote 91 books so far, and you have seen his books they are not thin. He reads 70 to 80 books a year, that is probably more than I have ever read myself.

Greatness comes from within. Walt Disney used to draw cartoons, he got fired and yet he is one of the most successful people that have ever lived. He did not listen to them, he went and achieved something even greater than he had ever imagined of doing. What if he had stopped when he was fired? Disney would not exist. It is that different.

Everyone, is familiar with the "I have a dream speech." That was not written overnight that took planning, that took rewrites over and over again and tearing out pages and writing it again and again until it was time for him to make that speech and it changed the entire world, one man was able to do that. If one man can do that you can make a change too.

There are many great people who were not great before. Some of the greatest athletes and actors came from nothing. They had nothing, but they rose up and tried. They tried because they were tired of having nothing, they were tired of being pushed around, so they had no choice, but to raise up. They had to in order to make their lives better.

Remember the hard times, that is what can be used to motivate us. We can remember that time that you were bullied, that time when someone told you "grow up that is impossible" and you need to realize that there is no such thing as impossible. It is a word that lazy people use. So stop being lazy pick yourself up and be great, be the greatness that you always wanted to be. You want to be an athlete push yourself on the days where you don't want to, you want to be an author write the maximum, not the minimum, you want to be an actress or actor, go to every audition you find, practice your speeches, you want to be a scientist stay in the lab a little longer. You want to be great? Then, stop wanting it and start doing it.
