Monsters Under the Bed. Monsters in Your Head?

Shyest fears speak loudly.

What is your worst fear? Go ahead, think about it. Look away from the screen, move your eyes back and forth a few times. That seems to help. Okay. Got it? Now, what is the last, small, everyday fear you had? That being, something like opening your eyes quickly in the shower as you shampoo your hair because a brief memory of that scene from Psycho comes to mind with screeching violins playing. Or that time you were standing in line for a rollercoaster and you flashback to a summer evening at the fair on the octopus ride. You were screaming bloody murder and yelling lies out loud such as "I'm going into labour! Get me off this thing." You could maybe use that lie today, it might work, since your not seven any more. It's all fun and games until you have an anxiety attack as soon as the latches are fastened on the cold, plastic seat of the carnival ride. It's all fun and games until you have to figure out what to do with your life in the real world. You know, it's all games and fun until somebody loses an eye.

I have experienced all those fears. Except for the concluding one, luckily. But who knows, that might happen one day. Life is unpredictable. Life is a rollercoaster. Honestly, life is just SCARY AS... my mom reads these. Now that's scary. In my opinion, these small fears are worse than your "worst fear." Now, I'm not judging your worst fear. It's just, kind of far-fetched. Let's say you are scared of dying. Well, okay. I'm sorry. But, get over it. If you did die, it's over. You (if you were still alive which you wouldn't be. See how far-fetched this is?) would be able to say that you conquered your fear. You would have handled it to the best of your ability and you wouldn't have to fret over it for the rest of your life. Obviously. But, on the other hand "small fears" interrupt our daily life. If your worst fear is drowning, how often does that affect you? Only when you choose it to. When you go to the water. But if your scared of the dark, you don't get to choose, the sun goes down every night. Some fears are physical, like that of being in a confined space. Most of fears are mental though. Your own mind can be "afraid" of itself. Does that scare you? I'm sorry, it does for me too. When I think of my ultimate worst situation I think of the most terrible, and horrific thing I can imagine until I shutter. It's a situation that if I put numbers and percentages on it and saw the chances of it happening to me; I know I would see that it's really nothing to be scared of. Those are the type of words a mom would use in a movie, "There's nothing to be afraid of sweetie." During that same scene you're thinking: "Umm, yeah there is something to be afraid of! I saw the scary monster coming to your house about three scenes ago, he should be there any second now! You were scared of that mouse under your bed, you're in for a real treat kid." You then continue to shove popcorn in your mouth. Back to reality, if I was ever there. There are real problems that will come up in life that we need to be preparing for. We can't be focusing on the worst possible scenario that our mind writes up for us. There are real monsters we will see. And those might just be being able to continue with a project that we think we can't finish. You don't have to cross a bridge that's 400 feet from the ground, but you should really try to take the next step towards the career you want. Don't walk in tall grass, there could be snakes. But please, do make the first move of starting up a friendship. There are more people who make good friends than there are snakes in the world. Don't quote me on that. Don't be like me and judge people for their fears, they have their reasons. Your worst fear exists, hopefully it will never affect you in this life, but if it should ever befall you, I have faith that you will be able to work your way through it. You have lived this long, overcame many trials and handled problems and firsthand terrors. They all have prepared you for your future. The best thing you can do is to prepare. Realize that being afraid of things is not a bad thing. In fact, healthy fear that motivates us to become better is mentally strengthening. Now, if you ever have to experience your worst fear you may have to scream, you can go ahead and practice this. Your friend, Void, is always open for you to scream into. Do not let fear overtake your life. It's okay to be worried and scared. But what are we scared of? Is it going to affect today? Will we be ready if it comes to life and happens tomorrow? You tell me.

Now, what is your worst fear? This time, close your eyes, see the darkness, and let it fill in the gaps of what is really worth your fear.
