Have you made many mistakes in your life? One can argue that, if you have not made any mistakes, you are not really living. We have all made mistakes. Humans beings are imperfect by design. But that's what makes us beautiful. That's what makes us awesome. If we were all perfect, would life be as exciting?
Think of yourself as living the most perfect life. A life without problems or struggle. A life without failure or mistakes of any kind. How different would this life be from the one you live now? Would it be as rewarding or would it be bland? What does reward even mean to a life that is perfect?
“Mistakes are part of the dues one pays for a full life.” ~Sophia Loren
A world without mistakes
Imagine if no one ever made any mistakes. There are so many things we would not have in our lives. Millions of tools we enjoy would have never been made. Inventions such as the light bulb wouldn't even exist. Thomas Edison would have never attempted to try. How could we have had things like the airplane? Devices like the one you're using to read this would be gone. Without mistakes, our creations in the world would disappear. For every manmade creation began its life as a thought.
In my own life, I have made plenty of mistakes. I'm still making them today and loving it. It's part of my process and also part of my charm. I use my mistakes as fuel to keep my inner passions burning. I use mistakes as a power to inspire other people. Without mistakes, I could never have gotten this far in my journey.
“You have to make mistakes to find out who you aren’t. You take the action, and the insight follows: You don’t think your way into becoming yourself.” ~Anne Lamott
Who you were meant to be
Ask yourself what mistakes you've made so far in your day. Did you spill coffee on yourself while you were heading to work? Mistakes can give us data to reevaluate life. They can teach us the lessons we would not learn otherwise. They can confirm that we are on the right track even when we are off the beaten path.
Your mistakes do not have to be scary or daunting. You don't have to let them lull your progression. You do not have to let fear stop you from facing failure and pain. They are a part of the process and we can view them as such. Many times I ran away from failure, thinking that I was heading towards my success. I now know that mistakes are not in the way. They are on the way to you becoming your best. They are on the way to new inventions, new beginnings, and new life.
"Mistakes are the growing pains of wisdom." ~William Jordan
I have learned that there are three ways for us to acquire wisdom. We can learn by imitation, reflection and experience. Experience is seen as the harshest teacher. It's the only one that provides the lesson after it gives you the test.
What new mistakes can you make to bring you closer to truth? If you have made no mistakes, my friend, it's time to get busy. You deserve to see all that life can offer for you. You deserve to become who you were always meant to be. Realize avoiding "mess ups" won't get you there any faster. Know that avoiding mistakes is not the way to be free.
