Life. A seemingly simple word, but the meaning is a bit more complex than one would imagine. The dictionary definition of life is "the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to the environment through changes originating internally." However, this is not the only way to define life. Ask yourself this question; ask yourself what you believe life really means and what it is. What is life really? The answer to that, to me at least, is almost as elusive as the definition of the word "normal." It is my personal opinion that life is defined, not by the actual definition, but by each and every person living on this Earth. Life is defined by their actions and personalities, for each person's life is different. Life has a different meaning for each person, culture, and country.
It is my own personal experience that the cycle we call life is never-ending and can be very confusing or frustrated at times. Many times, I have found myself wondering what my own purpose in my life is. What is the meaning of life to me, you ask? To me, the meaning of life is whatever you make it out to be. For some, that means family and friends. For others, it's about pushing themselves towards a better and more successful future, to advance in this unyielding world we call home. Life is our destiny.
Now, you may be asking what I mean when I say that life is our destiny. Well, I mean it exactly the way I said it. People decide their own destinies; it is not all planned out for us from the day we are born, despite what we are taught. One's destiny is decided not by others, but by the decisions and actions that one makes in their lifetime. The same can be said about life. Even if you feel like your life is being dictated by somebody else, you can change it. Nobody decides your life and tells you how to live it. For those with certain religious or cultural aspects that demand you live your life a specific way, just know that you can still decide how to live your life for yourself. It will take a lot of courage to go against everything you have ever known, but it is possible should you ever decide to do it. The choice you have is to continue your life by following what you've always known, or start a new life by breaking away from it. However, you must keep in mind that if you choose to go against your religious or cultural aspects' ways of life, there will most likely be consequences. Are you brave and determined enough to face those consequences, or will you back out at the last minute?
No matter what you choose to do, it is alright. There is no wrong way to live your life and fulfill your destiny, as long as you aren't breaking the law. Every person is different, yet we are all the same. We all have the same rights, emotions and morals, and we have all made difficult decisions to get to wherever we are today. So whether you are unhappy with how your life is going, or if you are unsure of how to proceed to make your destiny greater, just know that you are not alone. There are people out there in the world willing to help you should you ask for it. Just keep in mind that in the end, only you can decide how to live your life. Only you, can decide what your destiny should be and how to achieve it. As for my meaning of life, I believe that life is what you make it. I live my life so I can make memories with the people I truly cherish. So ask yourself, what does life mean to you? Why do you live your life? And are you happy with the lifestyle that you lead?
