Just Do It

My Mistake

Oftentimes, I realize I'm really slow to do the things I want to do. I have waited far too long to act on how I feel, speak up or even change things around me. Well, enough is enough. Life is fast, we all know that so why is it so hard to do take risks and just do what we want to do.

For instance, I once waited an entire year to tell my crush how I felt. I spent weeks planning the message I was going to send him, I revised it SO many times, I even planned which day and what time I would send it. I spent so much time focusing on the little details and making sure it was as perfect as I could make it. Long story short, he liked someone else and I realized, had I acted sooner, I could have spent less time worrying about it. I felt defeated, not because he rejected me (although that did suck), but because I felt like I wasted my time.

Reflecting on that made me realize that nothing will ever be perfect, life won't always pan out the way we expect or hope, there will never be a perfect time to do anything, we just need to roll our sleeves up and do the damn thing and hope for the best.

Just Do It

When trying to convince friends and family to get on scary rollercoasters with me, I always quote Shia LaBeouf and yell out, "Just do it!", and with enough determination, I can make someone terrified of heights feel courageous enough just for just one second for them to agree to get on that rollercoaster with me. We don't plan anything, we act impulsively, have fun and BAM!, on to the next coaster. But with everything else, I need to create a plan, revise it and replan, then wait till the right time to finally summon up the courage to do it and that just takes too much time.

Sure, some things in life should be planned, like a wedding, a proposal, deciding what college to go to or what you want to have for dinner next week, but with other things, we just need to go ahead and do it! Tell your crush how you feel! Apply for that job! Learn how to drive! Lose weight! Clean your apartment! Learn guitar! When there is something we want to do, we need to go ahead and take the first step.

If you want to lose weight, start by getting rid of all your junk food and doing any workout!

If you want to learn how to play the guitar, buy a guitar and watch a video on YouTube or look into getting lessons!

Whatever the case may be, the message is the same. We need to stop hesitating, stop the useless planning and overthinking and just do it!

But-

NO buts! So what if things don't go the way we expect? We move on, learn from our mistakes and keep living our lives. By doing things without hesitation, sure we may find ourselves dealing with anxiety, fear or doubt, but we need to use that energy and shift it into positive impulsiveness.

Prepare for the best and prepare for the worst, we cannot control the outcome of certain situations, but we can at least say we tried and did it.

I understand this isn't easy to do, but we can start slow. Try being less hesitant every once in a while, try to take more risks and learn to be YOU and act on what you want to do or what you feel.

Time is a precious thing, we should take advantage of living in the present and enjoy what we have or what we can do before it slips from our hands.

1...2...3...

Take a deep breath. Be confident. Envision what you want and JUST DO IT.

Procrastination, hesitation, doubtfulness, anxiety, etc., are the enemies and we can't let them hold us back. Believe in yourself and let loose.

Imagine yourself getting into a pool, you dip your toes in and it's so cold, but if you slowly get in, it'll be torture. Just jump in! Yeah, it might be cold at first, but once you do it, it's quick, and within seconds you adjust. Don't take 20 minutes slowly getting into the pool, do a cannonball and have fun!

No more hesitation, just do it.
