Impossible, Until Done

5 Tips to Help You Reach Your Dreams

I can recall being young and having the dream of becoming a lawyer. I knew I would be a lawyer and didn't see any other option for myself. I knew I was going to wear my pin-striped suits with stiletto pumps and be a great success.

LOL. Life has a funny way of crushing your dreams. That dream, which was the bright light in my life, became a shimmer in my peripherals. I began pushing my true dreams back for survival. As time continued and experiences arose, I discovered more of myself and that living my life as an attorney wasn't what I wanted for the particular life I had.

I went from going on a job shadowing with a local attorney to saying, "I want to join the Navy," to "I guess I'll just get a job on the Las Vegas strip." My responsibilities kept growing and my dreams were nowhere to be found. Fortunately, it's never too late, and all you need is a little spark to light that fire again.

I worked in a call center (for ten years) in the retention department, and I was absolutely miserable. I would have the worst anxiety driving to work... even Sunday night when I knew I had to be at work the next day my anxiety would be at an all-time high. Pretty much nothing in my life, except my children, made me genuinely happy. I was compromising my entire existence just to merely survive, and I'd had enough.

Fast forward to my thirtieth birthday! I woke up and just had this overwhelming feeling of, "Enough is Enough." I was done settling, done settling with my career (or lack of), done not doing something I was passionate about or excited to do. I was done settling in all of my relationships, and it was time to stand up! It was time I stand up for myself and for what I want without compromise. I'm 30 years old! I'm a Grown Woman! (*Beyonce voice). LOL. I was ready to live my life for me.

I knew I wanted to have my own business and I wanted to have the flexibility to be a present Mother to my children. I also no longer wanted to have to answer anyone, ask for a day off, or be micromanaged. I followed some guidelines in order to stick to my goals and here are a few.

Whether you are sticking to a career goal, fitness goal, or financial goal, these tips are a sure way to stay on track.

1. Drop the negative nancys & dream crushing drews.

Listen to me clearly! I don't care who is it. If who you surround yourself with is negative and shuts down your dreams when you share them, they have to go. No matter how big or small your dreams are, you should have support of the people in your life in obtaining those goals. Sometimes our goals are scary, but that shouldn't stop you. How would anyone be the first to do anything without that goal being a little scary. Madam C.J. Walker was one of the first black millionaires, and I'm sure the goals she had for herself were scary but she didn't stop.

Surround yourself with those who will breathe life into your dream and goals for yourself.

2. Break your goals down.

Saying you want to reach the moon can seem like a huge task. So, break that goal down into mini goals so you have milestones to reach to the finish line. You could say, I want to lose 20 pounds. Instead of looking at the full 20, break it down into 10's.

3. Vision Board

I love a good ol' vision board. Right now, I have a picture of a Tesla on my bathroom mirror to remind myself of what I'm working towards. A vision board is a great reminder, and it also aids in manifesting what you want out of life. Focus on what you want to gain and not what you don't want. Rearrange your though pattern and focus on wants and needs.

4. Celebrate the small accomplishments.

Waiting to reach your goal may seem tireless and thankless at times. Celebrating those little milestones or accomplishments that come from you staying on track are so needed! Acknowledging them most of all is so important. I know, personally, when something small happens that shows my efforts aren't in vain, it makes me feel so good and keep me pushing towards my goal.

5. Stay in a positive state of mind.

It's so easy to fall into a negative state of mind when you're working and dealing with everyday life and seeing fake lives on Instagram LOL. You have to figure out what keeps your mind in that vibration you want to be in. What you put out is what you get back. Self doubt and fear won't get you far. It will pull you down and you'll look up and you will be stuck at the same weight or in that same cubical that you didn't want to be in!

ZON'T (yes, zon't) do it!!
