I am definitely not a professional, but I do know a thing or two about keeping your head up. Personally, I am a very positive person, I believe that simple things like complimenting a stranger or even just a smile when you walk into a room can brighten someone’s day. So I try my best to be that person, because you never know what people are going through. Although it took me a while to be in this mental state, it is definitely worth it in the end.

To begin, I faded out any of my negative friends. I will still be there if they need me, but there is no need to spend time with them if it’s just a negative influence and they leave you feeling bad about yourself. Doing this may cause you to feel lonely for a little while, but due to the loneliness, it makes you more eager to meet new people. Unlike before, you are going to more events and being introduced to people you have never met before who have a wonderfully positive influence on your life. Now, you have people to talk to that will truly listen. This is the hardest step, if I am being completely honest, meeting new people definitely is not easy, but don’t give up, because this will cause your life to improve tremendously.

My next piece of advice is to stop worrying. Obviously, if you are a worrier, this is not as easy as it sounds. But I have two quotes I live by, the first one is:

“Do not worry about something for five minutes if it will not matter in five years.”

I use to spend hours and days stressing on something small, like a test grade but within the next week, I made it up and forgot about my issue from the week before. The same thing goes for things like breakups, think about the time when you and your ex broke up, it probably put you down for at LEAST a week, but now you are over it and you can find someone ten times better than the past who treats you how you deserve. If y’all would have never lost each other you would have never found what you have now. The next quote is “god has a plan,” if you are not religious or Christian, I completely understand. But I think everything happens for a reason, even the worst things. It probably taught someone around you a lesson, even if you didn’t realize. So stop worrying, and just go with the flow and follow your own path.

My last step to living a better life is self-care. You need to think about yourself and your wants and needs every now and then. I say take a day/night of self-care at least once a week. Whether it’s just reading a book before bed, doing a face mask, or even just putting on your favorite show that you never have time to watch. There are so many different forms of self-care that are simple to do but make a difference.

After about two months of following these steps my life has improved tremendously. I am definitely not guaranteeing anything but it is definitely worth a try. Just remember, you are beautiful and do not let anyone try to tear you down because you are your own person and do not deserve anything less than the best.
