Living in the moment simply means being present in your everyday activities. People often forget to live in the moment because of bad habits or because they have a lot on their minds. Living in the moment will help you to enjoy your life a bit more and retain some great memories. It is not a good feeling when you look back and realize how fast time has passed and see that you don't remember much of the events of that time. It's very easy to live in the moment and below are a few tips that will tell you how.

Do Not Capture the Moment

With the age of technology, many people are constantly checking their phones, waiting for email notifications, talking to someone, texting, etc. Obsessive use of technology can become an issue when it is a consistent habit. According to some studies, the average person spends over four hours on their phone daily. This number may seem shocking to some, but it does put the amount of time we use on our phones into perspective. When we are so focused on our devices, we miss out on more meaningful conversations, communication, contact, and much more with other people. We may even miss something we did know was there. Some people like to record their trips and take many pictures. There is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to have images to look at and share with others. However, if you notice that you are too immersed in trying to capture the moment, you will miss out on the actual experience. This could also be why people experience spouts of deja vu, meaning that they feel as though they are experiencing something that they believe they've experienced before. Well, maybe they experienced it before, but were too distracted to notice. Every moment is special and should be enjoyed as that. Perhaps you can take pictures more sparingly, so put your phone away while you enjoy the environment, people, and activities around you.

Stop Dwelling on Past Pain

Trauma is something that affects everyone differently. However, it is very common to carry trauma into your adult life. The root of many habits correlate to unresolved trauma, which may be what is hindering you from living your life to the fullest. How can you live in the moment if your mind is stuck in the past? A part of you may want to be a part of your present day experience, but the other part of you is still stuck reliving the past. Understand that your future can be full of more pleasant and enjoyable experiences if you want it to, but you have to be present mentally and remove any negative emotions holding you back. This includes doubts, fears, insecurities, certain expectations, etc.

Appreciate the Everyday Moments

It's good to have some expectations as it may help to keep you focused and motivated. Be sure to not compare your expectations with others. It can be quite upsetting to compare your progress and results with the results of someone else and realize that you may be a bit behind in terms of where you would prefer to be. Everyone's pace and journey is different, just as the obstacles encountered vary. If there are days where you feel like you should be at a different point in your life, remember to be patient and appreciate every moment in your life. Just as people can solely live in the past, they can also find themselves living too much in the future, which can result in decisions being less pragmatic. Enjoy the now by learning to appreciate your days and aim to improve them where you see fit. If there is a class you wanted to take, then take it. If you have been thinking about joining a gym, then join it. Do what it is you desire to know if you can so that you will experience more substance in your day to day life.

It's important to be appreciative even if you are having a gloomy day. In order to live in the moment, don't focus too far ahead and lose sight of where you are. Also, do not stay in the past and lose sight of where you want to go.
