Don't be an average Joe, because you don't have to be.

Okay, so everyone says "follow you dreams." But what if you don't have any?

Well, hopefully this post will help you realize you totally do have dreams. They've just been squashed by society.

1. Think about what you enjoyed doing during your childhood...

Often times, our dreams get squandered at an early age—if not by your parents, then at least by society and the realities of everyday life. We lose touch with our child-like naïveté, like Pablo Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”

As we grow older, something dies within us. We no longer have the impossible dreams we once had as a small child.

For me personally, I wanted to be a taxi... not a taxi driver, A TAXI—so I could go anywhere in the world I wanted (apparently, I didn't know about oceans or planes). Today, for me, that translates to the love of travel and my desire to see the world.

So, think back on some of your strongest dreams as a child and see how they translate to your desires of today.

2. Think about what you hate doing now...

Think about your day-to-day routine, what are somethings you absolutely hate doing or that you put off doing? Finding out what your passionate about can stem from filtering out things you hate doing now.

For example, I hate wasting my weekends doing nothing. I feel like a failure when I waste my free time sitting around the house. So, I check local events listings and find things I find interesting—like local live music, comedy shows, etc. I've found so many new passions just because I hate sitting around the house.

Eliminating things you hate doing can help you find new things to enjoy!

3. If money wasn't an issue, what's the first thing you would do?

Often times, we aren't following our passion because we're too consumed worrying about money. People should be more worried about living a mundane life ruled by fear...

If you're almost always going to be worrying about financial stability anyways, then why not worry about it while pursuing your dreams?

Stop spending all your energy at a unfulfilling, dead-end job. I'm not saying quit your job when you have bills to pay... what I am saying is—invest in yourself. Get off work, come home, and find a way to invest in yourself.

Read your favorite book, go see your favorite band play, spend time drawing or taking photographs if that's what you're passionate about. Don't let society convince you murdering your passions is more productive than investing in yourself.

4. What is something you would do everyday if you could?

If there's something you wish you could do everyday... then it's probably something you SHOULD do everyday!

The only reason you aren't following your passion everyday is because you're a slave to the clock and to fear. You spend your time and energy on other things than yourself, and you're probably tired and depressed.

Want to change that? Invest in yourself and try everyday to spend more time and energy on something that you're passionate about.

5. What would you like your legacy on Earth to be?

Do you want your legacy on Earth to be like everyone else's? You die a hard worker? You die a mid-tier employee working for a giant corporation that doesn't know the difference between you and your fellow colleague? You die a committed wifey or hubby to your partner who was probably unfaithful somewhere down the line? HAVE FUN WITH THAT.

Come on. No one wants to die an average Joe. So stop being an average Joe. Commit yourself to YOURSELF, get in-tune with what you want from life, find your passion, and don't settle.

Don't be an average Joe, because you don't have to be.
