How to Enjoy the Little Things

Whether it's the weather or a small compliment, we should learn to love the little things.

Hi, my name is Audrey. When I'm feeling down I like to think about the little things. Although that is incredibly hard to do in such a stressful world we live in, there are small little treats that can brighten up our day and can boost up our mood.

Although enjoying the little things can be great, sometimes it can be a challenge to find or embrace them. I'm writing this to show you how to find and how to enjoy the small things in life.

The first major topic is how you find happiness within the little things. When I'm in search of a little happy boost to start my day, I like to go outside and take in the weather. Personally, I love the outdoors and I like to take in my surroundings. The things I like to see and focus on are the sky, the wind, the sun, and the noises around me. Now, of course, I love sitting inside my house and having my alone time, but next time you look out the window, consider going outside and taking a walk. Even just taking in some fresh air would be great.

One of the cons of trying to enjoy the little things is overthinking what you do. Yes, it seems confusing, but sometimes (for me at least) I can get lost in my thoughts. It's without a doubt not the end of the world, but it can occasionally get you lost on what you should be focusing on, which is the little things. I don't want to teach anybody how to live their life but for me this can be a wee bit of a con.

I think living your life enjoying the little things can make a large difference. I believe it makes life purer and more enjoyable. Enjoying the little things can open your mindset and make you see things that other people cannot see. It's a whole new world when you enjoy the little things, and I know that sounds unbelievable but it's true. Not only have I learned a lot about the world around me but I learned a lot about myself as well. Going outside doesn't necessarily mean you're going to learn about yourself. You can learn about yourself wherever you are. What personally helps me embrace my surroundings and the little things are having a quiet space, whether it's inside or outside.

I wanted to ask others and get their opinion on how they enjoy the little things and a very large majority said that they don't enjoy the little things. That was a shock to me, because the fact that my friends are missing out on seeing things that are magical and so special in your eyes is pretty disappointing. I think anybody would be sad if other people were incapable of seeing what you could see. For example, imagine you are with your best friend, and you're just hanging out and see a beautiful, surreal sunset. Although you can see the sunset, your friend cannot, and you are incapable of sharing the moment with your friend.

The little things can sometimes be scary. The thought of having to be distracted by your surroundings to ignore what life has put in front of you is very depressing, but if you're thinking in the right mindset, you will feel good. I can be a negative person but that doesn't mean that I don't put in an effort to feel happy, embrace my life, and enjoy it to its full extent. I think enjoying the little things is a big majority of living your life to its best point. There are other things that can make you feel depressed as well. The thought of aging, for example, can be spooky. The idea that you are almost one year closer to death is scary, but if we put our heads in the right mindset we can feel more confident and think on the bright side of it. For all it matters, aging comes natural and we should embrace what our life has gone through. That's why we celebrate our aging, just like how we should celebrate the little things in life.
