There is a wonderful technique I have started to use that has changed the course of my life. It was taught to me by a friend of mine, and I would love to share it with you. First, I must give you a word of caution. This is a technique that can improve and help you in every facet of your life. Through the use of this method, you will feel elevated, uplifted, and vibrant. You will start to uproot problems in your life by eliminating things that no longer serve you. You'll be able to tell the difference between essential and nonessential.

Getting back to your source, and the things that actually put more into your life. As you learn the principles, bear in mind that knowledge is not power. Applied knowledge is power. Just knowing this method is not enough. This technique is an actionable acronym. The acronym is SAVER. We'll start with the "S" which stands for Silence.

Silence

Realize that your silence is golden. Every day is a great day for silence. Learn to appreciate more of it in your life. Taking time to meditate each morning has shifted my life in major ways. Allowing more clarity and intuition that flows throughout the day.

Many people do not take time for meditation. Whether they think they are busy or feel they don't know how. In Robin Sharma's book, The 5AM Club, I learned the value of meditation. I read that "Long stretches spent in noiseless contemplation is one of the secrets of the advanced mind." It also taught me "To become an everyday magician, grow more comfortable being still." One of the hardest things for us to do is be still. You'll find that accomplishing this will give you more focus and willpower in the long run.

"All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone." ~Blaise Pascal

While every one else is sleeping, try waking up early and meditating. Any habit can be tough at first, but with enough practice it will be second nature. You don't have to sit in Lotus or do anything strenuous. You can sit in contemplation and visualize the day ahead. Everything we do takes energy. Bruce Lipton talks about how we are writing checks every day in our energy checkbook. Taking time for yourself like this is like an energy saver.

Affirmation

Next, the "A" stands for Affirmation. An affirmation can be declaring a statement or mantra. This can be in any form. You can write down affirmations. You can speak affirmations. You can even listen to affirmations. Of course there are pro's and con's to all three forms.

Writing words of affirmation can be one of the greatest and positive practices. You may have heard that what gets written gets done. When you design the life you want on paper, you will achieve it on purpose. A dull pencil is better than a sharp mind. The palest ink is better than the sharpest memory. All of these quotes point to writing and its manifestation powers. When you write on paper, it can be a form of energy transference. You are creating a bond with your destiny.

Speaking affirmations, on other hand, can be even more powerful. Often many of us listen to ourselves too much and don't speak to ourselves enough. When you speak out loud, the words travel farther than you realize. The spoken word is one of the things that we can never take back. Once something is said you cannot retrieve it, but it is possible that one day you may receive it. Words are weapons. Wield them with care. They can used to build you up or tear you down.

Visualization

The "V" stands for visualization. What has helped me has been visualizing the future I want. You can visualize in your mind or while watching material. Think of the places you want to see and the things you want to do in your life. Really picture them and imagine you are there.

What countries would you like to visit? Would you like to travel by boat or by plane? What food would you like to taste? What cars can you see yourself driving? What home can you see yourself living in? You can even create your own vision board to remind you of these goals.

We get where we're going much faster when we know what we want. When we don't know what we want, we can spend our time wandering around. I heard a story where someone asked Aristotle (Ancient Philosopher) a question. "How does one make it to Mount Olympus?" Aristotle gave a reply that I find enlightening. "The surest way to reach Mount Olympus is to ensure that each step we take is in the direction of Mount Olympus."

Exercise

I'm sure you guessed the "E" stands for Exercise. Most likely, you already know why this is beneficial for you. Whatever form of exercise that you prefer is great. It could be doing Yoga, or shadow boxing, or going for a run. All you have to do is get up and get moving. You can go to your local gym or have a gym at your house. The most important thing is that you break a sweat. Get those endorphins pumping the best way you know how. You'll be supercharging your days in no time.

Read

The "R" in SAVER stands for Read. I've read the average American reads about one to two books per year. Imagine that? If you have gotten this far in the article, I am assuming that you are not average. So, perhaps, you have already heard of the "Compounding Effect". If you read something every day, even for 20 minutes, a compounding will begin to take place in your life. Things will start to come out of you that you had no idea were inside.

I read a book by Ben Carson where he explained that it's not the storing of information that's the problem. It's in the finding information that we get hung up. Locating the archives in the database of our mind and picking out a file that we needed in that moment. In the book, I learned about how much storage one brain has. Our brain has the capacity to store knowledge from the beginning of man to now and still have room left over. That's one brain. This means that there is no such thing as "information overload." Don't let fear stop you from learning all you can.

John F. Kennedy was known to be one of the fastest readers in history. Able to get through six newspapers with one cup of coffee. Spend some time reading as often as you can. You can read autobiographies to draw inspiration from the past. Mentors don't have to be actual people. Mentors can come in the form of books. Or read a fiction novel for your own entertainment. The point is to read and go at your own speed. You can miss a meal but don't miss a book. Your body has more than just a mouth to feed.

That's it! Keep it simple. Silence, affirmation, visualization, exercise, read. Savor your day. Savor your morning. Savor your life. Allow this method to enrich and open you up to possibilities. My hope is that it will make for a more meaningful life.
