For When You’ve Had a Bad Day

some advice...

A bad day finishes with the setting of the sun.

Life isn’t always great. And that’s an understatement. Life is going to throw things at you unexpectedly and sometimes you’re just down for no reason. However, here’s what to do when you’ve had a bad day.

  • If you have a loved one, pet, etc. at home then give them a cuddle! Relaxing yourself with someone else can sometimes be the medicine that you’re looking for. With a pet, play with their favourite toy or play a game with them. With a loved one, watch your favourite shows or just embrace one another.
  • Put on your favourite dress, pyjamas, pants, or anything that makes you feel like the best version of you. You’ll feel great about yourself and it’s always fun to get dressed up.
  • Make yourself a meal and a drink. Whether it’s soup and a coffee or you decide to make yourself a three course meal and down it with some alcohol, make sure to treat yourself with something you like. Something as easy as cooking & eating can help distract you from the day you’ve had and make you concentrate on something much better.
  • Make a playlist full of your favourite music. Scream the lyrics if you have to, dance around like a four year old with no rhythm. It doesn’t matter what you do with it, as long as you listen to it and remember that these songs will get you through any day.
  • If the weather isn’t too bad, go for a walk. It doesn’t have to be for miles and miles but a change of scenery and fresh air might do you good. Walk to the beach, walk to the shops, walk to a friend's house. Just have a walk and clear your mind of negative thoughts.
  • Turn your phone off for a while and have some internet-free time. Sometimes social media and all the depressing news you hear could be affecting your mood & your mental health. Time some time and focus yourself on you again.
  • Have a chat about your day or write down your feelings. Expressing your emotions can help you get over the pain and sadness of a bad day. If you talk to someone they can give you their opinion to make you feel better. If you write your feelings down, after year it up into little pieces and imagine the negativity disappearing with your torn up words.
  • Focus on tomorrow. Write a list of all the hints you want/need to do tomorrow. The bad day has happened and you can’t go back in time to change it. Unfortunately that’s life. But life is also constantly moving forward, and so should you. So, don’t be too hard on yourself about one singular day, and focus on the next.
  • It’s a big cliché but remember it’s just a bad day, not a bad life. Life isn’t stagnant, things are always changing and the bad times will pass. You’ll change and your situation will change, but not always for the worse. Although you had one bad day it doesn’t mean that you failed life! You still have all of your amazing talents, your efforts were not made in vain, you can still carry on knowing you tried. You can’t always have good days, because you’re only human. The bad days will suck, but they’ll make you appreciate the good days. The bad days will make you learn and grow and will make you stronger than you were before. If you have to take one thing away from having a bad day, take away the ideology that bad days do not last forever and things will get better, but some days the bad days have to happen so you can reflect on life and come back better than ever.
