Finding Your Inner Beauty

Why can't I?

Watch the Blossoming Occur!

Finding your inner beauty sometimes isn't about how you look in the mirror, how others see your true character, or what you do to prove yourself. Sometimes your inner beauty is what you do to care for yourself, nurture, love, and invest in yourself. My new mantra is "Why can't I?"

"Each flower blossoms in its own time" is one of my favorite quotes. Most flowers open in the morning to the rising sun. There are some flowers that open to the moonrise and some even rise from the swamp waters to blossom. Wherever they are in the world flowers have the Purpose of Blossoming and Sharing their Beauty.

This got me thinking: What is My Purpose and Have I Even Blossomed Yet?

Every morning I wake to meet myself for the first time that day. Some days are a better introduction than others. First impressions are supposed to be the most important 20 seconds of your life to the person you are meeting. But what about to yourself? What if the first 20 seconds of your morning sets the stage to the rest of your day?

I can't even count how many mornings I have hit the snooze or rolled over for 'five more minutes.' Or how many times I have dragged myself to the bathroom not wanting to be awake yet and feeling miserable. What kinds of thoughts are going through my mind at that time? If these thoughts were things that others would hear, I'd be embarrassed. Better yet, would I ever say these things to another person? Probably not.

I am not a morning person. Never have been. I can get up and get things done, but left to my own demise I wouldn't rise early in the morning. Why? I don't know the answer. I know I get more done and I'm more productive if I arise early, so why not?

Here are some fun facts that seemed to motivate me: most of the most successful people in the world have morning routines to set the tone for the rest of their day. Some even set aside an hour every morning to just be with themselves (read, pray, exercise, drink coffee, sit outside in the silence, meditate, etc). Of all the things they have to do, no matter how busy they are, that one hour each morning gives them Focus and Purpose. That purpose of growth helps them blossom and share their inner beauty with the world.

So if professional business people read a book a month to stimulate their growth—why can't I? If some of the richest people in the world save more than they spend to maintain their wealth of money, status, stability, and peace of mind—why can't I? If these same successful people also make the appropriate sacrifices to get up early to spend an hour refreshing their mind, body, and spirit—why can't I?

We make choices everyday that contribute to our lives or take away from it. How we spend our time is 'Our Investment.' Who we spend time with, how much we eat, where we go, what we read or watch... all taking away our precious time or adding value. That is where our inner beauty comes from and it begins the moment we wake up!

Finding your inner beauty isn't about looks, presentation, examples or proof of value or quality. Sometimes inner beauty is the quiet places you cherish and leave open to welcome growth— nurture the curiosities of your mind, calm the spirit, stimulate your body and love yourself through the moment.

"Why can't I?" has become my new mantra because I know I can. I can become successful, wealthy, knowledgeable, professional, beautiful—I just have to choose to invest in myself and make the choices that get me up out of bed, give me purpose and then watch the blossoming occur!!
