Difficult, Not Impossible

Don't limit yourself because of fear.

Being young in today's world is difficult. As a millennial, my opinion might be biased, but I stand by it. There are so many things we could do, so many things to see, and so many decisions to be made. I fully understand that before the creation of advanced technology and social media, life was also difficult. Wars were being fought and women were pressured to be stay-at-home mothers and/or wives, I get it. But the thing is, they all knew what they were going to do, they had a path set for them. It was simpler.

Now we are given a whole array of things to choose from, which leads me to the question, when the world is an endless palette of possibilities, how can you choose what to put on your blank canvas?

'What if?' A question we all ask ourselves on a daily basis, whether it's something big, like 'What if I don't get into my dream school?' or something simple, 'What if I say the wrong thing on my date tonight?' Every time we ask ourselves 'what if,' it will impact our lives. Being young in today's world is one big, messy, what if.

My current, and many others I assume, 'what if' situation is...

"What if I don't live my life the way I want to live it?"

God, it's terrifying not knowing what to do. The worst thing about it is that it is such a common occurrence in young people's minds. It scares the hell out us because we see all of these people on social media, living their best lives. They travel the world and meet people and do things that we all wish we had the courage to do. They chase these dreams that seem so impossible and wild that they couldn't possibly achieve them. But they do.

These individuals take the plunge and chase their dreams even though they are told it won't work out and that they can't do it. Often, it's them who tell themselves they won't be able to do it. That is my greatest fear. That I will limit myself because I'm scared that I won't be able to achieve my dreams and be like those impossible people. They can inspire, and dishearten people who don't think highly of themselves. But hell, the motivation is so, so much stronger. It makes me think, 'Yeah, you know what? I can do it, too. I can do it, I will do it.'

Some people are master dream chasers, like Jay Alvarrez.

He is an incredibly inspiring public figure and photographer. Jay dropped out of school in seventh grade, and left home at the age of 15 to become a videographer and photographer. His first few years didn't go very well, money was tight and he lost his mother, but this only pushed him to become the person he is today. Jay Alvarrez inspires me each and every day and if you want to catch a glimpse into his life, watch this video, I promise you won't be disappointed.

Another incredible human being is Sam Kolder. He, like Jay, travels the world and specializes in making videos to show the world how beautiful it can be. These incredible photos and videos show me and everyone else how really incredible the world is if you just take a second and appreciate it for all it's worth. Take risks and learn from them as well as try hard to make the things you want happen, because good things don't come to those who wait. Good things come to those who persistently try hard to make the things they want to happen, happen.

These are just two people out of nearly 7.3 billion other who are living their best lives. Just two. Imagine how many others who will, and currently are, inspiring people just like them. Become one of those people. Throw away the 'what if' that is holding you back and chase your dreams, find something you like and pursue it. Because I will tell you right now, no one is going to chase your dreams for you.

It is your choice.

"There is freedom waiting for you, on the breezes of the sky, and you ask 'What if I fall?' Oh but my darling, what if you fly"- Erin Hanson
