Boost Your Personal Performance in These 5 Ways

Simple Ways to Becoming Better

1. Organize your life.

Organization is an important part of reducing stress and boosting performance. Avoid forgetting important events and activities by jotting them down in your phone or in a planner. Pick one place. Writing down calendar events in different locations means you might forget something. Also, organize your work. If you have a desk, keep it tidy. You probably should go paperless, if you feel like piles of documents are controlling your life. Too many papers can be stressful, but if you cut down on clutter your mind will be clearer.

2. Learn to set and accomplish goals.

Goals not only help boost your performance, but they also boost your personal satisfaction. If you want to avoid burnout, keep track of what you accomplish throughout the day. That way, you won’t feel like you’re working all day without getting anything done. By setting and tracking goals, you’ll spend less time worrying about whether or not projects or tasks will be completed on time. You’ll be able to tell employers or clients exactly where you’re at in the process they hired you for. There are no downsides to setting and accomplishing goals.

3. If you make a mistake, try again.

Don’t get irritable if you mess up a few times. An attitude of forgiveness is not only an important part of how you treat others, but it’s also an important part of how you treat yourself. Getting frustrated or giving up on something at work, or in your personal life prevents you from learning and correcting your mistakes. If you can, fix it. Fixing your mistakes will help prevent you from making them a second time. The most important thing is to refuse to let mistakes made deter you from taking beneficial risks, or attempting things you aren’t naturally gifted at. Lifelong learning, on the job or at home, requires an attitude of resilience.

4. Find people who motivate you.

Your performance at both work and in your personal life are both influenced by the people you keep around you. If you find yourself getting frustrated frequently, it may be because your employees or friends are having a negative influence. Determine if it’s because of who they are, or a result of how they are treating you. If you feel like you can treat those around you in a way that will help them motivate you better, do. Consider cutting people out of your life who bring you down, and don’t have any desire to change.

5. Develop a positive attitude.

While you can try all of these suggestions, they won’t work unless you have a positive attitude. If you find yourself struggling to feel positive, begin and end tasks by asking yourself what you will enjoy about the activity, or what was satisfying about your experience if you’ve already completed it. A positive mental attitude at work will help you accomplish so much more, and a positive mental attitude at home will help your rest time be more effective. Burnout is often caused by overworking yourself without rewarding yourself at all. A positive attitude is a great way to reward your mind.

Try these tips out if you feel like you’re stuck in a rut at work, or you just want to feel better about how much work you’re doing. Do more if you feel like you’re not doing enough, and take a mental health day if you’re overwhelmed. High performance requires careful planning, and mindful living.
