Comparison Kills
We often compare ourselves to other people, whether it's what they have, where they are in this stage of their life, or what they are doing. Social media is one of the most common ways for us to compare our lives to others'. We get to have a sneak peek and a snippet of peoples' lives. You see that one of your coworkers got that promotion that you were hoping for. While scrolling you see that house you were hoping for is sold; or, that one of your closest friends got a new car while you're struggling to keep yours. Maybe it is a group of your peers who are graduating and you're still trying to figure out which degree to pursue. The truth of the matter is, we have no idea how those people got what they have. We don't know what it took to get where they are now. Comparing yourself to someone else will always leave you unhappy because someone will always have more than you or always be further than you are. It is my belief when God placed us on this Earth we were beautifully and wonderfully made. Each one of us has a gift. We become so aware of other people's gifts that we forget our own. Galatians 6:4-6 states, “But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he has rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For every man shall bear his own burden. Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teach in all good things.” This means don’t compare yourself to others. Just look at your own work to see if you have done anything to be proud of. You must accept the responsibilities that are yours. I believe whoever is being taught God’s word should share the good things they have with the one who is teaching them.
