Act of Forgiveness

Read on...

Today I have finished reading You'll See It When You Believe It by Dr. Wayne Dyer. It's a great book, and if you haven't yet, you really should read it.

Spoiler alert (and what this post is about): At the end of the book he writes about an act of forgiveness, how giving is the key to forgiveness, and much more...

What touched me most was when he wrote that he sent letters with best wishes (they were honest) and gifts to people who somehow failed him, either by not paying debts or other things... What's most important here is that by letting go of these things and by sending them truly good vibes, he had freed himself.

Why am I writing this? Well, hear me out.

Making a long story short, in June I didn't get paid a significant amount of money for work performed... a month later got sued by the same guy, claiming that actually I'm the one who owes him the money...

And the night before the court letter arrived, our car got hit by a drunk lady. Five minutes earlier me and my family were in the car. I thank God everyday that we're all good...

So that happened in July. Since then, I've been meaning to sue the lady for putting us through all the trouble, all happening while we were moving houses... And of course the value of the car has dropped dramatically due to the accident.

The fun thing about this event is that we actually have two cars now thanks to the accident—insurance paid out. We fixed it first, and while it was being repaired, bought another one...

Anyway, until today I was counting days to get her details from DVLA and send her an official letter about steps I'm going to take... but then I read the end of Dyer's book.

I decided that I will use her address, but not to fuck her up more than she is (she got arrested that night, and her 4-year-old boy—not present at the time of accident, thank God—might have been taken into care...), I decided that I will send her a Christmas card and a letter with best wishes and also to let her know that if she needs something, she can always reach out and we'll do our best to help...

It could have been anybody behind the wheel, and it might have not ended so well—people could get killed or injured then.

I used to judge, I was furious with her... But now I don't judge. Maybe she had a bad day, or got some bad news and just lost it... If nobody ever offered her help, maybe it's supposed to be me. Maybe I'm about to make a difference in her life just like she did in mine.

I have a good feeling about it.

And same with the guy who didn't pay me—I'm fed up with thinking about it, about hiring debt collectors or going into court. I want to be through with it.

I might actually deliver the letters and cards personally, and some gingerbreads that I'm making every year.

I feel so liberated, so light... And all I had to do was just to let go.

PS. The funniest part is that my neighbor next door was reading exactly this book at the time the accident happened. Who would have thought that several months later, I will reach out for this one, read it, and get back to that very night... Read this book and you'll understand—the Universe is perfectly synchronized. To say the least.
