Change is the shadow that lingers in the corner of every room, but it is also the light that shines through your window of opportunity. Change may seem scary or unwanted, but it is going to happen. But an inevitable change is something we shouldn’t fear, like getting older. It happens to everyone and there isn’t anything we can do to stop it, so why not embrace it? Throughout life we go through various changes, both physically and mentally, and some changes, even some of the worst ones, can be the most rewarding of all. You may lose your job but then find one that suits you even better. You could move to a new country or meet a new partner after going through the breakup of a failed relationship. These are all things you shouldn’t be afraid of. You should want them to happen. Yes, you may be content with the life you have now but you are never going to have new experiences if you don’t allow them to happen. You need to take risks and see change as something positive.
Imagine how boring life would be if we didn’t experience new things. Imagine sticking to the same routine in the same place with no inspiration or motivation to want to do more or see what you could accomplish. There are changes that you can create for yourself and they do not have to be big; they can be small changes, like trying a new hobby or visiting somewhere different. And these new experiences will eventually see your life take a completely different turn without you even realizing. By all means, if you are happy with exactly the way things are you can continue with what you are doing and live life playing it safe, but remember that you only get one chance to make the most of everything that life has to offer you. Some people do not have as much opportunity to create change as others, but that shouldn’t discourage anyone not to try. The smallest of changes can make the biggest of differences.
I think the thing that holds most people back is familiarity. People are content with the things that are familiar to them, which is why it is hard to accept change. If something seems unfamiliar or challenging then we immediately distance ourselves from it. It shouldn’t be like this. We need to face change with certainty because we are the ones that can make the best out of a situation, and a positive outlook leads to positive endings. By accepting that difficult times will always be ahead of us and that there will be changes that we cannot control, we will be able to prepare ourselves and handle them better. Of course, the most daunting of changes are the ones that we cannot control, and because they are unfamiliar to us, we see them as intimidating. We favor having control because we want to be in control of our lives. Sometimes we are not meant to have all the power. Sometimes life has surprises for us and it throws as much as it can in our direction. Sometimes we have to accept that things are going to happen that we may not want to happen and life isn’t always going to go the way we expect it to. However, there is no point trying to fight it. How we respond to change is going to determine whether or not it has a good or bad impact on us. By becoming more accepting of change we are more likely to welcome it into our lives and draw on all its potential.
So why not try and see every day as a day for change, because each day should be different and each day should offer you new opportunities as well as the ones that you create for yourself. Accept that change is inevitable and don’t be afraid of it. If you allow it to, it will lead you to better places, to better people, to a better mindset, and, most importantly, to a better you.
