A Short Realization

Take a Moment to Think and Look Around

At sunrise, you wake up in bed, you look in the mirror and wonder what the day will bring.

You decide to be nice for the next 24 hours, only to be stomped at from every angle that you are too nice. You come home only to look at yourself in the mirror wondering why you were stupid enough to be nice when no one else will be.

The next morning, you stand before the mirror and decide to be a rude person for the next 24 hours. You get comments that you act like a snob or worse, even when the people were not nice to you on the first day. People are worried that something is wrong with you. They try to interact and talk to you, but you reject them like the others rejected you the other day. You come home and look at yourself in the mirror and wonder why being rude didn't work for people to understand.

The third morning, you wake up and wonder if you should just be a helpful and sweet person. However, when you offer your help to others, people bump into you, intentionally or unintentionally, which makes you wonder what you have done in the morning to decide to help others. You help an old lady with her groceries and she yells that you steal her items. You hold the door for people without them saying "Thank You." You buy coffee for others only for them to scold at you that you bought the wrong one, when you knew they wanted it with milk or sugar or plain black. You come home and wonder why you try to even fit in the society whenever you choose to be someone you are not.

The fourth morning, you decided to be cold-hearted to show that the people who have treated you wrong will receive the same cold intentions from yourself. During the day, you push your family aside as well as your friends. You ignore the pleading of a helpless man that suffers from depression and ends jumping onto the train tracks. You come home and wonder why everyone has distanced themselves from you.

The fifth morning you decide to stay home and examine yourself in the mirror. You have tried to be nice, people are rude. You have tried to be rude, people were nice. You were trying to be sweet and helpful, people were aggressive and didn't want help. You were cold-hearted and people reached out to you in need that you ignored them.

You begin to realize there is an ironic pattern. But you shouldn't see the world between opposites or patterns. People will always criticize you no matter what culture you were born in, how you act or perform at your job. They will critique you from your hair to your toes, but it takes strength to just accept that you are yourself and you should be proud of who you are. Do not change yourself in favor of others. You should just change yourself in favor of yourself. Just stand on both feet, no matter how hard the people and life knock you down onto your knees; you can overcome these obstacles to become stronger. You yourself, as you are, are beautiful. Do not blind yourself to the opinions of others. Do not take others' fault as your own. Help people who are in need and be kind to people who do not deserve it. Even the people who do not deserve the kindest gifts do deserve a second chance to change, for you do not know what they have been suffering or gone through. Help and share the love with people who need it even when they say they don't.

Love yourself, be yourself, and love others for who they are.
