Ever feel lethargic? Like there's just too much to do and you don't know where to start? Like you're too overwhelmed to get anything done? This is normal. Our world is designed these days to expect a lot from us on a daily basis, and it's okay to need a breather! It's also important to find what works to make you feel better on those days when everything is a little too much. Here are some practices that work for me when I'm not feeling my best.

  1. Take a bath: Light some candles, throw in some bubble bath (or even better, a bath bomb), and relax! To make it even better, throw on some "spa music," or grab a good book you've been meaning to read. Leave the assignments in the other room; this is your time and space to chill and regroup.
  2. Talk to a friend/loved one: I find this especially helpful when I'm going through a rough patch. Sometimes when stress piles on the best relief is to have a chat with someone you know will love you no matter what. This could be your partner, your best friend, your mom, or even your cat Shirley. Letting all your feelings out and receiving comfort and understanding is so healthy. You might even share a laugh about everything you both have to do. It's a good reminder that deadlines come and go, but loved ones are a constant in your life.
  3. Read something light/funny: The world can be really overwhelming these days. There are so many negative things happening everyday that need to be acknowledged. However, when you're feeling like it's too much, it's really helpful to remember there are lighthearted things too. Read a romcom, graze the comics in the newspaper, or even browse some silly memes (my personal favorite are astrology themed, lol)!
  4. Go for a walk or run: I'm going to be honest, running and I don't mix. Exercise is really good for stimulating your body and mind and releasing tension though! Especially when you go outside and get some fresh air. I personally love taking scenic walks when I feel stressed and it really helps me relax.
  5. Take a nap: It's so important to get enough sleep! I'm actually really bad about this, but when I can get myself to chill out and take a snooze it really helps. Your body needs some time to recharge and it will thank you for it.
  6. Have a good cry: Sometimes you've just got to let it out. There is nothing wrong with taking a minute to be in your feelings when you're overwhelmed. It's a healthy release, and can really help you feel better prepared to tackle your work after.
  7. Cuddle a furry friend: I have two beautiful baby cats at home, and I miss them everyday. If you have a furry friend nearby, make sure to give them some loving when you're feeling down! It's proven to raise your spirits, and they'll love the attention. And if they're not feeling your smothering right now, even just being around them can make you happier!
  8. Listen to some of your favorite songs: Whether you love music that helps you focus, slow jams, or something high energy you can dance around to, indulging in your favorite tunes is sure to raise your spirits!
  9. Take it one step at a time: Remembering to take breaks really helps your workload feel lighter. Give yourself incentives! Tell yourself that if you work for half an hour you'll get a ten minute break. Maybe you'll work for an hour and get a fifteen minute break (and a KitKat for good measure)! Whatever works for you and helps you keep a productive flow without overextending yourself.

That's all for today, folks! I hope some of these suggestions help you feel a little more like yourself while facing whatever you're struggling with right now. You're doing amazing, keep your head up! Much love.
