You know one of those days... Nothing makes sense, you feel frustrated, down in the dumps, overwhelmed with a load of things you should be doing, but just don't have the energy for, and bored out of your mind by the same old story of the every day mundane life.

We all feel like that from time to time, but we actually don't need that much to get out of this state of mind and cheer up again. Sure, it would be lovely to go on a big holiday, eat dinner in a fancy restaurant or have a Hollywood makeover. But sometimes it is the little things that bring us the most joy.

Here are a few simple but effective ways to improve your day in seconds.

1. Get out of the house.

As simple as that, getting some fresh air can significantly change your attitude towards whatever it is you are facing right now. Being cooped up inside for too long can be overwhelming and it is difficult to get creative, productive, or excited about anything.

Go outside for a few minutes. You don't have to go far—a stroll around the block or a short walk to take out the trash (which also gives you a sense of accomplishment) may help you clear your head a little bit and hopefully get a new perspective. Moving your body also helps to get the juices flowing and you will soon feel like a whole new person.

2. Drink some coffee.

Preferably on your way outside, you can grab a cup of coffee which will get you energised again. If you have a minute, why don't you sit down and enjoy your shot of brain juice in the atmosphere of your favourite café? No need to say more. Coffee is the best.

3. Make your bed.

What a feeling it is to come back home to a bed that is made and looks so inviting to jump in and relax after a long busy day! It almost makes you feel like being on vacation and staying in a hotel.

If you work from home, it also makes the room look more organised which gives you motivation to be more productive. Besides, however small a task it may be, making your bed is certainly a task you will feel satisfied completing.

4. Get in touch with a special person.

It can be your best friend, a family member, or an old buddy you haven't talked to in a while. Catching up with a person you can share your thoughts with, have a laugh, or just chat about the weather, is always time well spent.

5. Tick something off of your list.

Do at least one thing you have been putting off, no matter how big or small. There is nothing more satisfying than completing a challenge you have been postponing for ages and ticking it off of your list. Winning a battle with procrastination will definitely make your day.

6. Stretch.

Do a bit of yoga or simply stretch your aching body for a few minutes and you will feel so much better. Try not to think about anything else, stay in the moment, just concentrate on your body and don't forget to take deep breaths.

So refreshing!

7. Do a good deed.

Coming out of your shell and reaching out to other people can be really rewarding and make you feel pretty good. It can be as simple as giving up your seat on a bus for somebody who needs it more, or smiling at the shop assistant in a supermarket. Trying to make somebody else's day better will make your day amazing, too. Guaranteed.

8. Have a laugh.

I know it is easier said than done when you just don't feel like it, but it can be really simple. Watch a funny YouTube video, tell a joke to your workmates or dance in front of a mirror to your favourite upbeat song. Anything that brings a smile to your face is a win.

You don't even have to start laughing out loud, but engaging in something that is genuinely fun will very quickly lift your spirits and you will suddenly begin to see the world in much brighter colours.

9. Be grateful.

Stop whatever you are doing and write down at least three things you are grateful for. Try to be specific to truly realise how many good things there are in your life and how lucky you are. Acknowledging how much you already have and focusing on the positives brings you happiness.

It's easy as pie.

So, what is your pick for today? Do them all and you will be the happiest person alive!
