It appears some people are born with a “happy gene.” Others are blessed with a dark cloud that follows them around wherever they go. It’s true that attitude is everything. A sour attitude from someone else can dampen your spirits, and if you are giving off some negative vibes, chances are you are dampening the environment for other people, especially at home or work. Sometimes little changes can make a big difference in you attitude. Here are five things that you can do to help bring about more positivity in your day.
Wake Up with Some Gratitude
We all know what it feels like. The alarm goes off and our internal voice starts grumbling. If you are starting the day off already hating life, chances are your positive outlook for the rest of the day is going to follow suite. You can surely start your day over at anytime with your mindset. However, if you wake up, and just take a moment to be grateful that you are alive, it can change your whole attitude. List five things you are grateful for, other than just being able to be alive and breathe. Be thankful that you have a job to go to. Gratitude is the number one key to staying positive at work.
Are you bored with your job? Negative vibes can come about when you don’t feel like you are growing. See if there is something new that you can learn that may make your job better. Take a training class, read a book, watch a webinar. When you learn about something new, there is a rush of excitement that comes with it. When you begin to acquire knowledge, you become more positive- because you are growing! It is just like a plant reaching for the light. Take the time to foster your mind and spirit by learning at least one new thing a day.
Don’t Get Involved with Drama
Do you want to know the easiest way to continue having a positive attitude? Stay away from drama. If you are not part of the problem or part of the solution, just stay out of it. Misery loves company, and often, you end up getting dragged into situations that are not yours to be dragged into. Adopting this life policy will help you to stay in your own lane and focus on your own positive outlook. It can be contagious to others as well. Stop gossiping, comparing, and doing more than you are asked to do and let other people handle their own life situations.
Surround Yourself with Positivity
This seems simple, doesn’t it? But most people would rather stay in a negative relationship or friendship out of fear of loneliness than to set positive boundaries and only hang out with the winners. You adapt to your surroundings. If you have a lot of negative people in your life, it is hard to continue going against the current all the time in trying to be the only positive voice. Try to find people that have what you want- a positive outlook on life. Granted, everyone goes through hard times, but it is how they stay in the solution that makes all the difference.
There is a big difference between selfish and self-care. You need to take care of yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually in order to keep a positive outlook on life. If you are overtired, spend too much time on social media, aren’t practicing any kind of spiritual connection and just kind of go through the motions of life, it can have a major effect on you. Make your environment, both at home and at work, one of positivity. Writing affirmations and posting them can help. Decorate them with things that make you happy. Write out your goals and post them. Give yourself some encouragement. Manage stress and take time for you.
There are many other ways that you can incorporate positivity into your life. These things may be simple, but if they were that simple, everyone would do them. There is always a silver lining in every cloud, and this too shall pass. It is all about attitude, and that is something that you have a choice over.
