5 Ways to Be More Adventurous

Living beyond your comfort zone!

Let me just start by saying that anything that pushes you beyond your personal comfort zone IS ADVENTUROUS! So that's the good news! What's adventurous to you might not be to someone else and that's FINE.

But, I promise you that when you feel more adventurous, you'll feel more alive, and isn't that all we really want anyway?

(Let me just add that I'm not endorsing doing harmful things to your body or mind when I talk about "adventure" here. Stay safe, have fun and be free!)

Now to my 5 tips...

1. Realize you're never going to be "ready," so commit NOW to doing something new and maybe a little crazy.

We often like to imagine our future selves as more accomplished, stronger, braver, more intelligent, more wealthy, etc., and thereby more prepared for an exciting lifestyle. But that's simply not the case! And it'll be a waste of your time waiting until you're that person to try those new things you've been dying to experience. So do them now!

2. Find an adventure buddy!

I know getting out of your comfort zone can be scary, so pair up with a friend or a family member or a significant other and use them as additional strength in accomplishing your adventurous task! Then next time maybe you'll feel ready to strike out on your own!

3. Start with small adventures and move on to big ones!

Start small, make every day adventures like trying a tricky recipe for a fun dish, going thrifting with a friend and trying on wacky outfits together, or simply riding your bike somewhere you would normally drive. From there you can work up to running a half marathon, backpacking for a week, and joining a flash mob.

4. Chose adventures that help shape you into the person you want to become!

Remember that attractive, strong, wealthy, intelligent person you've been picturing as your best future self? Start working towards becoming that person now THROUGH gaining experiences that you would normally consider yourself "ready" for, but you know will contribute towards your personal growth.

This could be taking a marketing course, or attending a business seminar to finally start taking action in starting your dream business. It could be learning a new language if you're looking to become more of a global citizen or understand other cultures better.

5. Live out your fantasies!

Think of moments from books, movies or TV shows that really excite you and think of ways you could emulate the thrill of those characters' lives in your own life.

For example: Let's say you've been reading a steamy romance novel series and are loving it! Think of why that sort of thing is so appealing and exciting to you. Now think of ways you could experience some of that thrill and adventure in your everyday life. Why not strike up a conversation with the next stranger you find attractive? It’ll give you a crazy rush and you’ll have a hilarious story to share with friends regardless of how it goes. It sounds insanely risky, I know. But when are you gonna start living if not now?
