2018: The Year of No Excuses

It's time.

I’ve never quite been one to do gigantic overhauls with my life around the New Year's time, but after 2017, I feel almost obligated to do so out of a personal fear of repeating the past over again.

It's time to stop!

It’s time to stop:

  • Saying to yourself, “Ugh, I’ll just do it tomorrow.”
  • Thinking that tomorrow is a guarantee.
  • Beating yourself up.
  • Procrastinating.
  • Mindlessly following others.
  • Believing that there’s a one-trick cure for every major problem.
  • Complaining.
  • Being ungrateful.
  • Distracting yourself.
  • Seeking happiness in possessions.
  • Using people.
  • Running from your responsibilities.
  • Being half-hearted.

It's time to stop it all!

It's time to take back control of your life.

Your favorites pastimes have become a perverted waste of your time. Sure, they’re nice to experience now and again and can help you to unwind, but you’ve become addicted to the concept of release. You think that if you aren’t up to date on the latest episodes, the biggest movies, or the newest games that you’re missing out on something. And indeed you are: IT’S YOURSELF!

You’ve lost the capacity to become satisfied in your own stillness. You’ve believed that consuming, rather than creating, is what brings you joy. That the act of creating is a thankless waste of time that’s unrewarding and often creates more stress in your life than it releases. Tonight, I do so declare to you though that the opposite is true. It’s when you get lost in creating and doing something that you enjoy that you are the most serene, productive and calmest version of yourself. Not when you’re raging out over sports teams, watching fictional people enact unrealistic situations, or pretending to shoot other people online.

It's time to hustle harder than ever before.

Your life is ending one day at a time. This is easy to forget when you only take things in on a weekly or monthly basis, but make no mistake: Every second that you waste today is a second that you could have used to further build your legacy. The days of sitting back and taking it easy are over. The days of putting in work and grinding like you never have before have come.

Think of where you would be today if you’d only put the work in a year or two ago. Perhaps you’d be working in a different field. Getting a better wage. Seeing more of the world. Finally doing what you love for a living. This concept can indeed become a reality for you, but you’ll have to work hard for it. Harder than you’ve worked for anything else in your entire life. Distractions are always free and easy to come by. Accomplishments though, those take time, determination, and dedication. And they’re worth every second of it.

It's time for a new you.

If you’re not growing, you’re decaying. You’ve had a good run with your old self, but that’s over and done with now.

You know what happens when you stick to the status quo. You constantly talk about where you want to go and what you want to do in life, but you never do it. Others nod in agreement, saying, “Cool, sounds like a good plan,” but they’ve yet to step out and chase after their goals themselves!

It’s time for you to break free from living in the same cycle over and over again. If you truly wish to see your life change, then you yourself will have to change. Radically. In order to be a success, this year is going to have to break you. It will make you question what you’re doing with your life and if the journey is worth it, and then you’ll realize that it is. It will test your relationships with those that you love and care for, but it will set you up for many more fulfilling ones in the future and strength the ones you have now even more.

This is the year you shed off your old self and break forth into the person you’ve only ever dreamed of becoming.

It’s time for a brand new you.
